Everyone loves lollipops! These treats have been around for ages and come in all colors, shapes, and forms. They have satisfied the sweet tooth urges of many generations and still continue to delight us even now. The National Lollipop Day is celebrated annually and is a perfect occasion to indulge in some tasty lollipops. This yummy treat on sticks has a colorful past and interesting background.

#1. Lollipops have been around for long, really long and we are talking about the caveman era here. In those times, fruit and nut treats were candied in honey and enjoyed on a stick.

#2. This treat that we enjoy so much first emerged in Europe in the 17th century. Sugar is available in plenty and put to good use, and boiled sugar confections made out of it were eaten with a stick inserted in them. This was to prevent hands from getting dirty.

#3. Earlier the term lollipop meant something entirely different. The first-known use was in the 1780s; the famous Charles Dickens used the term in reference to stick-less candies.

#4. The biggest lollipop was created in 2012, and it was chocolate flavored. The creator was See's Candies of California, and their lollipop weighed over 7 thousand pounds and stood 5ft tall.

#5. As the demand for lollipops grew, so did the production. The year 1908 is when the first lollipop machine was created and it created 2000 candies every hour.

#6. These spiral suckers have famous labels and Chupa Chup was designed by none other than Salvador Dali. The guy who invented the popular candies was friends with this celebrated name.

#7. Some of these candies are made particularly for adults. A company called Lollyphile produces beer flavored lollipops. If you are a fan of grapes, then you can try the merlot, chardonnay, and cabernet flavors.

#8. Strangely enough in 2011, mothers especially ordered for lollipops kids loved to lick, but in turn, they suffered from chicken pox. The goal was to introduce the virus to their own kids and make them immune to it.

#9. The largest manufacturer of lollipops today is the Tootsie Roll, which produces over 16million of these succulent candies every single day!

Lolipops are a kid's best friend. we all at some point or the other had our share of lolipops. before reading this article, lolipop was just a colorful ball which had chewing gum in the end. eating it was the most joyful moment of my life. These facts are just amazing and definitely wants me feel like eating more.
