Having ants running around the kitchen is not just frustrating but unhealthy as well. They can cause a lot of damage because while some of them can cause painful bites (Fire and Harvester ants), others can destroy building materials (Carpenter ants). Ant extermination is very important because these tiny little creatures carry bacteria which can be transferred into your food.
But how to kill ants? If killing the ants or getting rid of them have been a perennial task for you, then we have some permanent ant extermination methods lined up for you.
Well, it might look like a compliment for some when the ants could not resist the smell of their freshly baked apple pie, but ants in the kitchen can never be a good idea. Ants carry bacteria which can contaminate your food. To prevent your kitchen from an ant attack, here is a list of home remedies that can be used to get rid of ants in the house.
#1. Lemons
These little citrus balls can do wonders for your house. Squeeze it or place the lemon peels at the entrance pathways of the ants. Ants are not a fan of the smell of lemon juice, and therefore will run away.
#2. White Vinegar
Ants repel the smell of anything citrusy or acidic just like white vinegar. Prepare a solution of water, white vinegar, and any essential oil. Sprinkle in areas that are most prone to an ant attack. Spray it every day.
#3. Pepper
The sweet toothed ants hate pepper. Sprinkle crushed or uncrushed pepper on the affected areas. Pepper will surely make the ants change their minds.
#4. Salt
Just like the chefs say it, ‘add a pinch of salt’ in every nook and corner of the house to prevent the ants from entering inside.
#5. Chalk
The calcium carbonate content of chalk helps in keeping the ants away. Spray the powdered chalk in the areas that work as entry areas for the ants. You can also draw a line using the chalk at the entrance of the house.
#6. Homemade Ant Killer Vinegar
If the ants that raided your house are too adamant to leave, here’s the recipe for the best ant extermination solution, also known as the ‘Ant Killer’. Make a solution using black pepper, lemon juice, dish soap, and vinegar. Spray the solution at the affected areas and see the results yourself.
