What's The Difference Between Curd & Yogurt?

Yogurt and curd are the two most confused dairy products. Mostly, former is considered to be a fancier substitute of the latter.

Well, to burst the bubble, the two products are quite different. They are made using different methods, have different nutritional value, and even taste different.

Here is what demarcates the two dairy products:-

#1. Making Process

Yogurt is made by fermenting the milk using the bacteria known as yogurt culture. Curd, on the other hand, is made by thickening the milk using an acidic substance like lemon juice or vinegar.

While curd can easily be made at home, Yogurt is more of an industry product.

The two dairy products also differ by the calories they contain. Yogurt, as compared to curd has low-calorie content. Yogurt is a popular choice for weight loss. While a 100 gram serving of curd implies an intake of 98 calories, the same amount of yogurt contains around 60 calories.

#3. Protein Intake

Both the products differ on the amount of protein they offer. The curd is higher on the protein side as compared to yogurt. A serving of 100 grams of curd contains 11 grams of protein, while a similar serving of yogurt only has 3 grams of protein. However, there are other varieties of yogurt like Greek non- fat which can offer you higher protein content.

#4. Bacterial Strength

Another significant difference between the two dairy products lies in their bacterial strength. As curd is usually made at home, so their bacterial strength may depend upon various preparation- related factors. Yogurt, on the other hand, is more standardized when it comes to bacterial strength as it constitutes various other lactic acid bacteria than the basic yogurt culture.

Opinion
Yogurt

Yogurt is healthier than a curd. It Contains more proteins and provides more a much more energy. I always prefer to eat a Cup of Epigamia Natural Greek Yogurt after a workout. A cup of yogurt or Greek yogurt provides 6g of protein, thus it a good source to full fill the protein requirement for me.
