Why are Rules so Important?

From our personal to our professional lives, it’s all being regulated by a vast number of rules. These rules have been determining various aspects of our lives since archaic times. We have, for instance, different sets of rules for traffic, education, and even sports. Not only do these rules strictly govern our lives, a breach of these may even bring in some severe consequences.

Over time many have got into thinking if we should always follow the rules. Well, along with an understanding of the concept, here are some good reasons why we should follow the rules.

What Are Rules?

Rules, in layman terms, are a set of norms which indicate what is socially acceptable and what all falls under the deviant behavior. It is not necessary for rules to be in a strictly written form. They can come in an unwritten form as well. For instance, while going to a restaurant, we have to abide by a social code of conduct which regulates our dining etiquette as well as public behavior.

Why Should We Follow The Rules?

#1. For An Organized Society

A society devoid of rules is quite likely to collapse under chaos. It is this strict number of rules that keep the conduct of the masses regulated and establishes the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong.

#2. Trust And Accountability

When you know that everyone around you is expected to abide by a set of rules, it generates a sense of trust. You have a sense of comfort with the idea that each person is accountable for his behavior and you live a rather free life devoid of apprehensions.

#3. Security

Rules play the most important role when it comes to curbing crime. It is in the form of law that the rules against criminal activities or various civil offenses have been laid down. With the law, not only do the citizens get a safer environment, it also gets easier for them to avail remedies for any kind of harm caused. A breach of law may have quite serious consequences.

#4. Consistency And Direction

Interestingly, another reason why should we follow the rules is that it gives a sense of uniformity and consistency. Rules actually help in getting consistent results. For instance, if we talk about sports, it is only while abiding by the rules that you can have stability in the game and have the targets set. Without rules, anything is likely to deviate to a different direction.

#5. Fairness

For a fair and justified society, rules are of utmost importance. When it comes to the authorities, it is through these set of rules that it could be determined if any authoritative action is justified or not. When you have an organized set of rules, any unfair conduct of the authority or the State becomes highly unlikely.

Rules are essential for life. One must have a certain set of rules to carry out for the rest of their lives. Rules make you a better person. They forge you for success. It’s easy to lead a life without rules. But, it’s difficult to choose the hard way. When we have guideline towards our goal, we reach them systematically. We can observe anything around us in order to understand the meaning of ‘RULES’. For example the nature. It is now affected by global warming. Earlier, when we didn’t have so much of pollution in the air and we respected the rules of nature. Nothing was wrong with our health. Our health now is deteriorating each day due to high levels of pollution. We went against the rules to respect the mother Earth and now, we are depleting it each day. Nothing can stay devoid of rules. We need them to regulate ourselves. For instance- If we see a fan regulator and if we do not have a particular rule to make it work, then how will we be able to use it? It has been playing a crucial role ever since life started to exist on earth.
