What are the Civic Responsibilities of a Citizen?

The term ‘civic; originates from its Latin version ‘civicus’ which means citizen and responsibility come from the Latin word responsum, which means ‘reply.' As a combination, the word implies the responsibilities of a citizen towards their society and their nation.

As a responsible citizen, one should abide by all their civic responsibilities.

Civic Responsibilities Of A Citizen

A democracy is a political scenario wherein all the citizens live a free life, protected by their civil rights and responsibilities towards their country.

Civic Responsibilities of a citizen can be defined as the ‘responsibility of a citizen,' which comprises of actions and attitudes connected with democratic ascendancy and social contribution. Civic responsibilities can include participation in welfare activities, be it in the bureaucracy, church, local schools or any volunteering programs.

Civic responsibilities of a citizen can be categorized as political, economic, civil, or environmental and derive from a personal sense of initiating or helping the society. Few examples of civic or personal responsibilities of a citizen are:

As a citizen, we should look after the cleanliness of our society, our village, and our country. Avoid throwing garbage on the streets or in the backyards to keep your living space clean and healthy.

As a responsible citizen, it is your quintessential duty to respect all the religions. Never indulge in the act of blasphemy. Everyone has the right to follow their religion, and you should never disrespect their beliefs.

As a citizen of the country, one is liable to fulfill their moral and legal responsibilities. We should always love and respect each other promoting an atmosphere of harmony.

Understanding our civic responsibilities is important because they educate us about our responsibilities towards the country. Few of the important civic responsibilities that will help you in becoming a responsible citizen are as follows:

Rights and responsibilities are two sides of a coin, i.e., they go hand in hand. If you wish to have your rights, you must fulfill the corresponding responsibilities. Rights and responsibilities do not limit to the nation but are a part of our daily lives as well. We need to be aware of our rights and responsibilities pertaining to our house, society, village, state or the country.

Rights and duties of every citizen are extremely valuable and inter-related. Every state or country provides its citizens with a set of fundamental civil rights which includes personal rights, religious rights, economic rights, moral rights, social rights and political rights.
