Mango lovers can rejoice as the much waited International Mango Festival is back in town. The festival that takes place at the Delhi Haat in the month of June-July began in 1987.
The venue for this festival would be Dilli Haat, Netaji Subhash Palace, and Dilli Haat Janakpuri. This year the event will be held from July 9 to July 10. Let's tell you about it in a bit more detail:
What makes the event so special?
This festival is organized by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation every year, and the tickets are reasonably priced at INR 20 for adults and INR 10 for kids.

What drives people to this festival is the vast variety of mangoes that are all available under one roof. Apart from that, there are many mango eating competitions that one can participate in; they can get a taste of Aam papad, pickles, jelly and chutneys here.

Mangoes with an unusual name
Apart from the commonly-known numerous varieties of mango, this year some unusual names would be making it to the list, such as Royal SP, Raddy Pasand, Papitiyo, Sensation, Nazuk Badab, Tommy Atkins. A rare species of mango, which is called the Gula by Tariq Mustafa from Purkazi in Muzaffarnagar, will also feature as a star attraction at this festival.

The Indian connection
Among the 1365 varieties of mango that are grown all across the globe, around 1000 different types are grown in India. A land where mango is not just called the king of fruits but also referred to as the symbol of life in ancient scriptures, it comes as no surprise that people are so enthusiastic about it that they have proclaimed it as a national fruit. It’s not just India, but the neighboring nation to shares the same passion for mangoes and their national fruit is also mango.

Try new culinary skills
This event serves as a single platform to bring mango lovers and sellers together and gives you a chance at sampling some of the finest mangoes for free. It also drives in a lot of reputed chefs that their stalls and counters where they share recipes to delicious desserts that you can try on your own. The desserts that are mango based are accompanied by full course meals that have imbibed mangoes and dishes and shakes. You can also learn mango carving at this place and check out mangoes carved and camouflaged as other fruits such as banana, guava, and watermelon.

Folk Music
The only thing that adds more to the taste and sensation of this ambrosia’ fruit is rustic music. The festival that will enthrall all your senses including sight, smell and taste will also give a lot of pleasure to your ears. The ambiance would get more enchanting with folk music; there will be various folk songs sung that would primarily be based on mangoes.
The International Mango Festival is indeed a grand celebration of the king of fruits and those who absolutely love this fruit should not miss out on it.
