Psychologists should generally be consulted when the severity of one’s mental illness is considerably low. Also, there are many people who don’t like to have a lot of medication and psychologists would suit them better too. Psychologists are also recommended to people who feel that they can easily get addicted to certain medications and that could have a serious impact on the chemistry of their body. When Should You Call A Psychiatrist?
Because psychiatrists are more inclined towards the clinical side of things, they are well-versed in the biology of things. One of the biggest advantages of visiting a psychiatrist over a psychologist is that they have the formal education and training to understand and evaluate underlying medical problems in patients. Psychiatrists are highly recommended to patients suffering from severe kinds of mental ailments like schizophrenia, major depression, and bipolar disorders. To make things more digestible, here’s the final word; if your disease is not that severe then going to a psychologist could help you. However, if you absolutely need medical attention, then a psychiatrist is your safest bet.
