The single most drink we all would never shy away from is coffee. It is a beverage that seems to be made for everyone. For different people, there are different ways that it can be drunk and that makes it such a versatile drink.

Cleanser: Coffee is known to have many cleansing abilities. Recent research shows that caffeine is an excellent scavenger of free radicals which damage cells in our body and hence cause diseases. Coffee sweeps away all these free radicals and hence protects our bodies from a host of different diseases. An interesting thing to note here is that the research reveals that here also, the ideal amount of coffee is two to three cups in a day.

Memory Booster: We all know the wonderful effect that caffeine has on our minds. Scientists believe that caffeine can help us in developing what is called long-term memories. Then there is the energy inducing effect that coffee has on people that assist them in increasing their endurance. Scientists say, that to boost your memory, you should consume, on an average, two to three cups of coffee in a day.
So, looking at the trend above, we can see that coffee is not that bad for your health after all. However, here is the catch; it is only beneficial until it is used in moderation. So, that brings us to the major question.

How Much Is Too Much?
Studies say that up to 400 mg of caffeine is safe for healthy adults. That roughly translates to, guess what, two to three cups of coffee in a day. Coffee has many different benefits. However, you have to make sure that you don’t use it as a stimulant.

If you’re drinking more than four cups of coffee in a day, then it can have serious health implications. For instance, it might cause a migraine headache, insomnia, nervousness and irritability among other things. And, that’s not it. Adding sugar to your coffee is one of the biggest mistakes that you’re doing right now. A report that came out in New York Times last year said that sugar is more harmful to your body than artificial sweeteners. So, if you’re someone who prefers all those coffee milkshakes, it includes cane sugar, whipped cream, and God knows what else. Make sure you cut back on that too.
Know Yourself
And in the end, just like everything else, caffeine might have different effects on different people. For some people, even one cup might be enough to make them last the whole day while for some others, even five or six cups might not be enough. So, here’s what you should keep in mind, don’t abuse coffee like it is some drug. It can have a lot of health benefits only if you consume the right amount of it.
