Sadness can be referred to as the state of mind where an individual experiences unhappiness and a vacuum of sorrow surrounds the person’s thought and mood. This could be caused by pain, suffering or grief over things or another person.

How Is It Related To Happiness?

Sadness is that state of mind that enables the brain to understand the other! Only if you feel sorrow, will you be able to understand what happiness is. Hence, it is important to be sad to learn more things about happiness.

What Role Does Sadness Play In Deriving Happiness?

Sadness and happiness go hand in hand. Hence, they both need each other for existence. Here are ways in which grief acts as the key to happiness:

You then look for opportunities that are less painful and find happiness in those moments.

Many a time, grief leads to the breaking of heart and the pain of that may be unbearable. However, it also opens your heart to the worst pain to make you immune to the other pains in life. If you have experienced the worst pain of all, the chances are that the insignificant pains will not hurt you that much and you will seek happiness in little things that make your day!

Nothing is permanent. Change is the only thing constant in our life. Hence, if you are having a bad day today, it does not imply that the same would be the case on all days. Therefore sadness teaches you the basic lesson about life that after every dark and hollow tunnel there will shed a light of hope. That light of hope is the moment you understand the difference between happiness and sadness and learn to value true things in life.

Sadness may be a bad phase in your life which will ween out with time. However, till it exists, it must be taken in a healthy manner as it plays a crucial role in determining your happiness. Thus, the greater sadness you feel, the more genuine and lasting happiness you will experience later, leading on to believe that sadness and happiness share a directly proportionate relation.
