It’s that time of the year again - to review the Bollywood films gone by. Amidst the box-office clashes, celeb controversies and demonetisation wave running across the country, 2016 did manage to deliver some good films.
If you haven’t watched these films on the big-screen yet, we’ve put together some compelling reasons to stream the best films of 2016. We’ve scratched the surface of everything that was worth watching. Ranking these films would only seem unfair. Hence, in no particular order, here they’re

An inspiring sports drama, Aamir Khan’s Dangal pays a touching tribute to the girl power. Possibly the biggest revenue earning film of 2016, Dangal proves why Aamir Khan is Mr. Perfectionist in every sense possible. Watch the trailer:


Based on the true life story of the courageous Neerja Bhanot, Neerja is a meritorious account of heroism amidst a hijack situation. Essayed beautifully by Sonam Kapoor, this film packs a punch as a thriller. Watch the trailer:
Udta Punjab

Easily the most controversial film of 2016, Udta Punjab is an eye-opening narration of the ongoing drug catastrophe that is consuming the youth of Punjab. It is also infused with a strong and powerful socio-political setup with an element of satire. Watch the trailer:

Kapoor & Sons is a story of a dysfunctional upper-class family that enlightens us to enjoy the little moments in life. It is also a gentle reminder of the importance of family and relationships in our life. Watch the trailer:

Based on real-life events, this film tells a thrilling tale of nationalism amidst an anti-war, socio-political backdrop. Akshay Kumar’s saviour act and a well-executed film makes it a must-watch. Watch the trailer:

If you think this is just another run-of-the-mill witless film from Salman Khan, you’ll be proven wrong. Sultan is Salman Khan’s best portrayals till date and the enthralling sports setting will keep you hooked on till the last scene of the film. Watch the trailer:

Nil Battey Sannata is a heart-warming drama that depicts hardships of a working mother and the techniques she applies to deal with her adolescent daughter. The strength of the film is the plot, an offbeat topic and the performances that are finely calibrated to showcase conviction. Watch the trailer:

Aligarh is a drama based on the biography of a professor getting suspended from his job for his portrayal of homosexuality. The film tackles this sensitive subject as the highly misunderstood subject (amongst the inconsiderate society) and showcases all the complexities involved. Watch the trailer:
Making this list was tough as there were some really great films to choose from. Let’s hope 2017 turns out to be an even better year for Bollywood films.
