Online reviewing has become an essential element in determining the success or failure of any movie. Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb are two different websites that post reviews for the digital masses. Although the sites cater to the same theme, it differs in its treatment of the subject.
If you have been struggling between IMdb and Rotten Tomatoes, then you can stop. We have a list of differences that might help you decide which one is better for you.
#1. IMDb vs. ROTTEN TOMATOES
IMDb stands for Internet Movie Database. It is an online database for all movie related queries. It displays every information related to films, television programs, web series, and video games. The information is mainly regarding the cast, production crew, fictional characters, biographies, plot summaries, and reviews. On the other hand, Rotten Tomatoes likes to be looked upon as a film review aggregator, which is a portal displaying a collective review of the movies. Although it has expanded itself recently, now covering TV and Web Series too.

#2. WHO ARE THE REVIEWERS
IMDb includes reviews of movies, TV shows and web series which shall be examined by regular users. Unlike this one, Rotten Tomatoes have restricted the reviewing to critics and professionals. The ratings tend to differ based on the reviewers. If you prefer reading the reviews before watching a movie, we would recommend trusting Rotten Tomatoes over IMDb because of the professional inputs.

#3. THE CONTENT DISPLAYED
On the one hand, Rotten Tomatoes have limited themselves to only reviewing Hollywood movies; IMDb, on the contrary, includes content from all over the world. So, if you are looking for a smooth flow of information regarding some international show or movie, then choose IMDb.

#4. WHICH ONE TO TRUST
Well, online reviewing can be misleading most of the times. Because the reviewer could be any of us (in the case of IMDb), the ratings depend on their likings. And even if critics do the reviewing they are not completely trustworthy. The site assigns a number on the rating scale based on the reviews. That gives the movie an average rating which might or might not be genuine.

#5. HOW DO THEY RATE
Rotten Tomatoes’ ratings are based on the reviews of the certified members. Once the reviews are submitted, the staff of the site categorizes the reviews as fresh (if they are positive) and rotten (if they are negative). Each year, one movie with the highest reviews is awarded the 'Golden Tomato.'
On the other hand, IMDb rates the movies on a scale of 1-10, with one being the lowest and 10 being the highest. The ratings are given by the reviews made by the users.

Despite the similar functionality, IMDb has become the regular industry resource because it talks about the who-what-where-when information about any and every movie, TV shows and Web series. Although Rotten Tomatoes have been primarily focusing on the reviews it 's hard to tell if IMDb is better than Rotten Tomatoes.
