Where is Armenia?

The name Armenia brings to mind an exotic location full of snow capped mountain peaks. The real place is no different, it is rich in history and is full of enormous scenic beauty. What makes it all the more intriguing is its mention in the Bible!

Now, if you are wondering where Armenia is and what is the country like then there is some really interesting information on this ancient city. Though small in size it holds within it a rich culture and tradition. 

Armenia Country 

The name Armenia which a lot of us first came across in the Holy Bible is a small country. Before the declaration of its independence, the country was a part of the Soviet Union, called Armenian SSR for 70 years. The country officially became Independent from USSR in the year 1990. This gave birth to the Third Republic of Armenia. For the people of Armenia, their country is not just a territory; it is holy ground.

A referendum was held which stated that the full independence of Armenia was declared in 1991. Following the creation of the Third Republic of Armenia, the country went onto receive international recognition and several states started developing diplomatic relationships with the country.

To locate Armenia on the map, you need to look up Europe and particularly the Transcaucasian region. To make it easier for one to look up this tiny country in the huge continent of Europe, one needs to look for the neighboring countries of Armenia, such as Iran, Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

Geographically, this mystical land is located on the continent of Europe. It lies somewhere right in the middle of the two great continents, Europe and Asia. The location of this country is what adds to the immensely rich culture of the place. It easily brings together the diversity of the two continents Europe and Asia together

• The total territory of Armenia is 29 743 sq. km

• The population of Armenia is 2.998.600

• Armenia is among the rare few ethnically homogeneous countries with the population comprising of Armenians, Yazidis, Russians and other ethnic groups such as Georgians, Jews, Greek, Assyrians.

• The language spoken by the locals is Armenian but the national minorities of the country that consists of Yazidis, Russians, Assyrians and others, speak two different tongues, Armenian and their native language.
