Where is Morocco? What is it Famous for?

Does the Muslim population (about 99% of Morocco’s population) make you think that it is an Arabic country? Yes, it surely is confusing, but do you know where exactly Morocco is located? What Continent of the world is Morocco in?

The answer is that Morocco, the country of sandy beaches resides in the continent of Africa. The Kingdom of Morocco rests in the northwest corner of the African continent. The North Atlantic Ocean along with the Mediterranean Sea is bordered by Morocco’s western and northern coasts. The hot and dry Sahara Desert is separated by the Atlas Mountains which can be witnessed while you travel the south and east coast.

Morocco’s location is such that it shares land boundaries with Algeria and Western Sahara. It is similar to the state of California in terms of its size and inhabits about 33 million people. The citizens are a blend of ancient Berber people and Arabs.

Occupied with a majority population of Muslims, the land of Morocco is covered by tall Mosques, accompanied with decorated towers, called ‘Minarets.' Major cities like Marrakesh, Fez, Tangier, and Casablanca is the home to almost 60% of the total population. Being near to the coastal plains makes them popular residential locations. The city of Rabat is the capital of Morocco.

Because of its coastal location, history, and culture, the Moroccan country attracts more than 10 million tourists annually, making tourism an important element of the country’s economy. The government has been advertising Morocco as an exotic, yet cheap place for visitors who are looking for pocket-friendly and safe travel packages. Europeans and French make up for 20% of the tourists, visiting the mysterious land in April.

Travelling to Morocco is an inexpensive affair due to the devaluation of Dirham (Moroccan currency). The country has excellent rail and road services linking major tourist destinations to ports and International airports. Most of Morocco's tourists visit the country for its culture and heritage. Some of the favorite tourist destinations in Morocco are:

• Oudaias Kasbah:

The prettiest corner of the city, it is far yet close to the city of Rabat.

• Fes el Bali

Get lost in the black alleys of this cultural destination if your nose does not mind some strange smells.

• Hassan II Mosque

This modern symbol of Morocco put 10,000 artists at work to achieve the finesse of the intricate marble carvings. If you admire ancient architecture, then this mosque is a must visit.

• Marrakesh Medina

Stepping you in the Marrakesh Medina take you into the hustle bustle of the Moroccan culture. Take the evening out to enjoy the stall vendors, traditional musicians, snake charmers and random acrobats inside the Medina.

Bab al-Mansour

Known for its marvelous structure, this monument reflects on the might of the late sultan Bab al-Mansour.
