Officially known as the Republic of Singapore, it is a sovereign city-state, the only island city-country in the world. It found independence in 1965 after being a colonial trading post for the British. It consists of a diamond-shaped main island along with more than 60 other small and large islands.
Singapore is located in Southeast Asia at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, east of West Sumatra in Indonesia. It is about 85 miles from the equator.

In addition to that, it also has one of the highest life-expectancy rates in the world and is consistently positioned in the top three.
