How to be Friends with your Colleagues?

We spend more of our time at work with our co-workers than with our family members. How our colleagues treat us affects us in big and small ways. Everyone thinks of themselves as social and likable people, but when others snub or disregard your feeling, it makes you feel bad about yourself.

If your colleagues are not incredibly fond of you, don’t let the situation take a toll on your well-being, instead use these pointers to deal with the situation.

#1. Don’t Take It Personally

In a population that spans to billions, you are bound to meet a vast variety of people, and you cannot be everyone’s cup of tea. Just because people or two are not incredibly fond of you does not imply that you are a bad guy. Focus on yourself and don’t take what others say personally, perspectives differ.

#4. Be Stoic

Most often people act a certain way to get a response out of you. Your colleague can be pushing you to see how you would react and the best way to not give in to their expectation is not to care. The less you would care, the happier you would be, and it would even ruffle up the feathers of those who try to evoke a response from you.

#5. Don’t Be A People Pleaser

Just because a colleague is not all too fond of you does not mean that you will go out of your way to be nice to them. There is a difference between being polite and being a doormat. If you over do the being-polite-despite-others-being –rude routine, you might lose your self- respect.

There is more to a job than just slogging it out to make money. Being friendly with your co-workers can actually help improve the office environment for you. It can be a huge stress-buster without which you might actually just end up hating everything about your workplace. Some real good bonds are often forged at the workplace and they change your life and work efficiency for the better. Afer all humans are a social animal and if you take away that important factor, it would only make everything redundant.

Yes

Being friends with you co-workers or colleagues will help you at your workplace.Having healthy relations with colleagues promote a happy and healthy atmosphere. A lively atmosphere boosts your efficiency and help reduce the stress level. And you would also love to go to your office if you know you have friends waiting for you!

No

I think that personal and professional relations should never be mixed. By doing this the future can be very messy. For example if I become friends with my co-worker and tell them exactly how I feel and think about everything (including the company in which we both work, the boos, the other co-workers etc).

Then this might go to other people's ear as well. I mean how can I trust a person who I barely know. So I think that this type of friendship should not be encouraged because at the end of the day we all are working for the money and most of us will do anything and everything to earn more.
