A semi-continuation of 2010's "Skyline" which takes after various characters from a similar alien-invasion beginning stage through dream hazards on a more stupendous scale, "Beyond Skyline" does its forerunner glad in that it, as well, is quick paced and sufficiently beautiful to rate as a strong blameworthy delight. This helming debut for Liam O'Donnell, who co-composed the first, is another exhibit for the FX work of the prior movies' co-executives the Brothers Strause and their organization Hydraulx (which has contributed visual impacts to various late tentpoles). In this impossible to miss bit of science fiction drama, Frank Grillo plays Mark, an extreme Los Angeles cop, now suspended from the power, whom we initially observe springing his ne'er-do-well grown-up child, Trent, from the hoosegow. A slowed down truck powers the two to take the tram, at which time their city is liable to a gnarly alien assault.
