Sultan Becomes First Bollywood Movie To Win An Award In Shanghai International Film Festival

Ahead of its release in China, Bollywood star Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ has won the Best Action Movie Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).

The movie, also featuring Anushka Sharma, has become the first ever Bollywood film to win the award in the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week, a category that celebrates action films with a focus on a fine collection of the best in action, special effects, and performances from China and the Asia Pacific. Last year, 'IP Man 3', a Chinese cult franchise that is popular worldwide won the award under the same category.

The Consulate General of India, Shangai Mr. Prakash Gupta accepted the honor on behalf of Yash Raj Films, following which the Director Ali Abbas Zafar issued an official statement thanking the jury and audience for considering his movie worth the award.

With this, he hopes his action drama, Bollywood movie ‘Sultan’ that revolves around the story of Indian wrestling and its power around the world, will make a business similar to Aamir Khan’s Dangal that ruled over the Chinese Box-office for weeks, minting money worth hundreds of crores.
