5 Controversies That Shook Bollywood So Far This Year

As long as there has been Bollywood, there have been controversies. Whether it was Dilip Kumar slapping Madhubala on the sets of Mughal-e-Azam or the more recent Hrithik and Kangana’s open war, our film industry has been plagued with scandals and controversies all along.

While it may give stars some sleepless nights, fans certainly love to read about these in tabloids. So today, we bring you some controversies and scandals that have shaken the Bollywood in 2017 already so far.

#1. Abhay Deol’s Stand Against Fairness Creams

Abhay Deol, who is known for movies like Dev D, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Shanghai, had had it enough with fairness creams and took to Facebook, calling out everybody from SRK to Deepika Padukone for endorsing fairness creams. While everybody on social media concurred with the star, his Aisha-co-star Sonam Kapoor posted an image of Isha Deol endorsing a fairness cream, which happens to be Abhay’s cousin. After strong criticism on social media for her “irresponsible reply”, Sonam was forced to delete her post.

#2. Sonu Nigam’s Azaan Debate

Sonu Nigam has had a long history of controversies and this year has been no different. When the singer took to Twitter to express how the sound of Azaan from a mosque nearby his house woke him early in the morning, it sparked a debate in public. While some were biased with Nigam in his battle against “forced religiousness,” many thrashed him, pouring with criticizing comments all over.

#3. Salman Khan’s Views on War

Salman Khan and controversies fit like hand and glove. Be it his rape remark during the promotion of Sultan or his performance at Saifai Mahotsa at the time when UP government was facing wide-spread criticism for shutting down relief camps for Muzaffarnagar riot victims. While promoting his film Tubelight, when the megastar was asked about his views on warmongering, he replied, “those people who order war, they should be given guns and made to fight. Within a day all conflicts will get over as their legs will start shaking.” While many agreed with the Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the statement did not go down with many in the industry.
