Passport is amongst the most important documents issued by the government of one's country. Your passport ensures your identity and your citizenship in the country. It entitles the passport holder to travel to and from the foreign countries.

How To Get A Passport?
While applying for a passport, there are a number of documents that are required. Different categories require different documents. Below is a list of all the necessary paper work that needs to be done to get a passport. Just make sure that you carry the original copies along with the self-attested ones of all the documents.

Once you start filling the Passport application form, you need to submit a list of documents to acquire a General Passport:
1. Address proof
To prove that you are a permanent resident of your house you need to submit:
#. Election ID card with present address

#. Aadhaar card
#. Phone bill with current address
#. Gas connection

#. Bank passport
#. Rental agreement (in case of rental house)
#. Income Tax Assessment order
#. Water bill with current address

#. Electricity bill with current address
#. Certificate from employer on letterhead with a seal and signature
#. Passport of the spouse
#. Parents’ passport

#. Photocopy of the Passbook of your active Bank Account
2. As A Proof Of Date Of Birth You Need:
#. Birth certificate issued by the municipal authority

#. School leaving certificate
#. Affidavit signed by a Magistrate/Notary declaring date/place of birth according to the specimen in Annexure ‘A.’
3. Proof Of Citizenship Is Required Only If You Are Not Born In India
#. If you have been born to Indian Parent/s but outside India, you will have to submit a Birth Registration Certificate from the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate of India.
#. If you have been approved by Indian Citizenship by Ministry of Home Affairs, then you will have to submit a Citizenship Certificate.

4. A Proof Of Identity Needs To Submit Only If You Are An Employee Of Government/Public Sector/Statutory Body
#. Original Identity Certificate and Standard Affidavit (Annexures B and I) for passport issuance without police verification, OR
#. An NOC (Annexure M) for police verification (after passport issuance), OR
#. A Prior Intimation Letter (as per Annexure ‘N’)

5. In Case You Are A Retired Government Officer
You will have to submit your Pension Payment Order
6. In Case The Applicant Has Separated From The Spouse
An Affidavit as per Annexure K needs to be submitted
7. In Case The Applicant Is A Student Who Is Staying Away From The Residence
You must submit an identity card or a letter from the Authorized Signatory.
8. In Case The Applicant Has A Diplomatic/Official Passport And Is Applying For An Ordinary Passport
They must submit a Surrender Certificate or canceled passport, with a letter explaining the reason of why surrender document is not available
