How to help your Wife through her Menopause?

Is your wife going through menopause? Are you troubled with her menopausal symptoms and effects? Menopause can be as difficult for a man as it is for a woman. Man and wife take a vow to suffer together in sickness and health so when a woman goes through some significant change in her body the man has to deal with the same. Menopause produces a lot of mental and emotional changes which does not only affect her, but it affects the whole family. The husband needs to be careful and prepared for such transformations to keep peace at home.

What exactly is menopause? Menopause is a phase when menstrual cycle terminates forever, and a woman loses her fertility. The average age of menopause is 51 years old in the U.S. However, the correct period when a woman may experience the end of the menstrual cycle cannot be determined. A woman who does not bleed for a year-long has entered her menopause. The beginning is determined when the woman starts having random periods meaning that they may occur after prolonged or short gaps and heavy or light in the flow. 

The irregular menstruation annoys the woman, and she gets bothered. Her moods start varying quicker which makes it hard for other people to handle the situation. The hot flashes do not last longer than two minutes. Women may turn depressive or have low moods during this period. Disturbed sleep patterns, urinary issues and cognitive problems like trouble in focusing and learning are other indications and effects of menopause.

#1. Extend Your Hand For Support

It is evident by now that women find it very thorny to work because of the physical changes and the emotional ones. You as a husband could extend your support by helping your wife in her work. You could clean the dishes with her, and you can help her do the laundry. Every woman needs help during this time and who better than her spouse to help her at home. Talk to your partner if she needs anything and get her whatever she needs. Communication during this time is very crucial as she should know that you support her and it does not matter how she looks or feels about herself. Ask her opinion about what she thinks is the best thing to do at this point of time and ensure her that you will stay by her side in every decision.

#2. Appreciate Your Wife

The woman probably doubts herself because she realizes that she is growing old and cannot be as pretty as she used to be. She will gain weight which makes her think that she will not look attractive anymore and at this point, your job is to make her feel beautiful about herself. Appreciate your wife by complementing what is more important than appearance like you could tell her how lucky you feel to have in your life because she made you who you are. You could compliment her life skills that helped you survive rough time in your life. These words of appreciation will make your wife feel good about herself and will make her feel secure in her relationship with you. Assure her that you love her and nothing has changed.


#3. Plan Dates and Surprises

You know what is better than telling her that you love her? Demonstrating your love for your wife is better than telling her about your feelings. Surprise her with little gifts and planning dates with her. Menopause will make her spirits low, and so she needs something exciting in her life. Taking her out for dinner and movies will keep her cheerful, and when she is content, then you will be able to relax. Your wife’s happiness depends on how you treat her during this time. If you mistreat her, she will get even more depressed. Make your relationship fun and enjoy each moment with her. Crack jokes and talk about the funny moments you both have lived together. Do not let your relationship become dull and boring because your wife must not be feeling good already.

#4. Do Not Force For Sexual Intimacy

Your wife would be annoyed, and sex would be painful for her due to the vaginal dryness and other issues led by menopause. If you force her for intimacy, then you would hamper your relationship with her. She would get agitated and aggressive invoking a fight between you both. Find a balance where you can maintain physical proximity but avoiding what she does not like at the moment. It is a standard issue among couples when the woman goes through menopause, but you need to be patient with her. It is not going to last forever, and therefore you can wait. You can consult a sex therapist if you want more intimacy in your relationship.


#5. Lend Your Ear To Your Wife

During menopause, a woman needs someone who can listen to her. There is a lot that goes through her mind at this stage, and she faces a lot of problems in her body about which she cannot talk to everyone. Your wife needs you to listen to her problems because she cannot talk about them to her friends. She feels uncomfortable talking about her bodily changes, but if you make her at ease, then she will be able to talk about it. Unless she talks about her body, she will not be able to live with it. Stress will build up which can exit only through communication. Your wife needs to vent out her stressful emotions to remain healthy.

#6. Get Medical Help

Get medical help if there are some complications in her menopause. If your wife is not able to handle the irregular periods or the pain during the menstrual cycle, then you should consult a doctor. Take their advice about what should be your next step. Even if there are no complications, then you should get a checkup done because it has been observed that the lack of estrogen can lead to cardiovascular disease. Osteoporosis is another disease that happens due to the low bone density that a woman starts losing after a year of menopause. Women may involuntarily urinate after coughing, sneezing during menopause because the vaginal muscles loosen their elasticity. Women may have urges to urinate more often. The most terrible is the risk of developing breast cancer, and hence regular checkups are very vital for the healthy being of your wife.


#7. Taking Care Of Her Health

Women may become careless during their menopause, so it becomes your responsibility to take care of your wife’s health. We have known the high risks of developing chronic diseases during menopause. All these can be avoided by being careful about the eating habits and the lifestyle. A woman needs to be more cautious about what she eats and what she does in her daily routine to keep herself fit. If the woman leads an inactive lifestyle, then she should start exercising because she can develop osteoporosis. She may have to start walking with the help of a stick her backbone may bend due to weakened bones. 

Exercising is very significant for a healthy body and also a healthy mind. The more distracted and busy she keeps herself the fresher she will feel. If she stays lethargic, then her mood will keep her uninterested in things around her leading to depression. This is the time when women need support and communication. Keep your wife engaged by taking her on social meets and some yoga classes for a stable mind.

Plan wisely about what you gift her because if you gift her some beauty product she may think that you are trying to imply that she does not look attractive anymore. Keep your wife busy because if she stays idle for long she will definitely start ill thinking about herself.
