How to Open a Wine Bottle without a Corkscrew?

Wine lovers swear on their love for wines and can easily differentiate between different brands and the taste of their favorite drink. They know everything that is to know about this elevating drink and can put that information to good use when required.

Now while we all enjoy splashing the scintillating drink into glasses and looking chic while sipping on the lustrous red syrup that is fruity and yet bitter, there is something that one needs to be able to open the bottle first. This seemingly easy task can get frustratingly difficult in the absence of a corkscrew. So what does one do if they wish to enjoy their favorite Sauvignon Blanc but have no corkscrew around. Well, here is how you can save the day around.

Most good wines come with a cork, save a few that have screw cap over them. Since wineries generally prefer corks over a screw, it is advantageous to know how to open a bottle of wine in the absence of a corkscrew.

#1. Use The Tools That Are Handy

Unless you are someone who has never put a nail in the wall, in which case your home must look really drab, you would definitely have a tool box at your place. It is extremely common to find a hammer, a screw or a screwdriver in a house and if you have the equipment mentioned above, it’s time to put them to good use. Just stick a screw right inside the cork and then using the screw driver, screw it a little further inside. Just leave an inch of the bolt outside and then using a hammer, pull out the screw and the cork. Make sure you use the end of the hammer and not the head or else you will end up with shards of glasses and spilled wine.

#2. Use A Wooden Spoon

In case you cannot pull out the cork from the bottle then you can instead slide it in further, either way, you get to drink the wine. So by using a wooden spoon with a long thin handle, shove the cork right into the bottle. If you apply enough pressure, the cork would certainly break free and slide into the bottle without making any crumbs or foil.

#3. Pull It Out With A String

If you don’t want the cork sliding into your precious wine, then there is another method to get rid of the cork. All you have to do is tie a figure 8 knot on your string and lower it into the bottle with the knot in front. Make some space for the string to pass inside by tilting the bottle sideways. Once the string passes the cork and slips underneath it, pull hard on the string which will force your cork up and completely out of the bottle.

#4. Bang It On The Wall

This sounds exactly like you just read, we are asking you to bang your expensive bottle of wine right on the wall but not literally. You need to cushion the bottle really well using a towel and, after both the sides and the bottom are wrapped up then bang the bottle against the wall in horizontal motion. You need to make sure that the bottle is well cushioned, or you will only end up with shards and spilled wine.

#5. Stab At It With A Knife

If you are completely frustrated and have no tools or towel around then surely there would be a knife lying somewhere nearby. Just grab hold of that knife. Just stick the knife into the cork and as you twist it, pull the cork upward. Soon the cork will begin to rise and when it is out about an inch, then stab it on the side and turn it till it's free of the bottle.
