Is honey vegetarian or non vegetarian food?

The divine taste of the thick and golden honey is known to enchant the minds of all but this sweet nectar also has a bitter debate over whether honey is a vegetarian or not.

The debate is no doubt a valid one because honey is the proof of the diligent and meticulous hard work of the bees, which is forcefully extracted and consumed by humans.

Well, the process of honey production involves bees but bees do not produce honey. The course of production of honey begins with the extraction of nectar by the bees, from the flowers.

This nectar is stored in their mouth while they return to their hive. It is done in order to break down the enzymes of the nectar and makes it suitable to store. This nectar is then passed on to another bee within the hive. This process is repeated until the nectar becomes thick and suitable for storage, the post which the nectar is stored into the honeycombs.

When in the honeycomb, the nectar is thickened by drying out the excess water, using a technique called fanning, in which the bees flap their wings in front of the comb to create an effect of the fan. When the nectar gets transformed to honey, the bees seal the honeycomb and use it as food storage for tough times like winter.

It can be easily concluded that in no way, honey is non-vegetarian but the point that we need to ponder upon is to check the exploitation of bees to get honey and deprive them of their food.
