Blame this prequel on the media. Most critics who saw Neeraj Pandey’s action-drama, Baby (2015) praised agent, Shabana’s cameo in it. Her brisk action-sequence in a Kathmandu hotel room, when accompanying Ajay Singh (Akshay Kumar) on a mission, provided the required adrenaline-rush. Taking the praise to their heart, this time around, the makers dedicated 148 mins, (really?) to the spunky agent. Sorry, but the running time is the film’s first inherent flaw. Frankly, Shabana shone in Baby because she was in a cameo. Someone missed the point, guys.

Naam Shabana movie review: Taapsee Pannu-Akshay Kumar's kickass action wins the game
Two years after Baby comes Naam Shabana, a spin-off tracing the story of Shabana Khan. Starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role and Akshay Kumar in an extended cameo, will the film match up to the expectations of Baby? Here is our Naam Shabana movie review.
Naam Shabana: 5 reasons we are looking forward to Taapsee-Akshay's film
With just a day left for Naam Shabana to hit the screens, we give you five reasons to book its tickets ASAP.
She was a Southern actor until she made her Bollywood debut with Chashme Baddoor in 2013. Her first brush with Hindi film industry did not fetch her any recognition, forget accolades. She was written off by audience and critics alike, leaving her with the only option of going back to her safe haven- Tollywood. Until she was found again by Neeraj Pandey for a role that got her back in Bollywood and how.
An almost forgettable Taapsee stunned audience with some kickass action in 2015 film Baby. A movie which rode high on Akshay Kumar's star power saw Taapsee turning the tables with her cameo. Many sat up and took notice of this girl who had almost become a memory.
And two years later, she is back with her Baby team. But not in a cameo. Naam Shabana is all about Taapsee, and that's reason enough to book a ticket to the film as soon as possible.

Naam Shabana producer Neeraj Pandey: Fancy words like spin-off don’t pull in audiences
Naam Shabana producer Neeraj Pandey has a repertoire of films like A Wednesday, Special 26, Baby and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.
His forthcoming Bollywood production Naam Shabana has been promoted extensively as a “spin-off” of his engaging and gripping 2015 directorial Baby. But filmmaker Neeraj Pandey firmly believes such “fancy words” don’t translate to impressive footfalls if content lacks quality.
“If it’s a good film, with a good script and performances, and it’s executed well, everything works. It’s not about whether a spin-off will work or not, or a sequel will work or not. Most importantly, it is whether film will work or not,” Pandey told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
I played a fool in Special 26, Naam Shabana is different: Manoj Bajpayee.
