Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Deepika essays the titular role of Rani Padmavati while Shahid Kapoor plays Maharawal Ratan Singh, a brave Rajput warrior. Ranveer Singh portrays Alauddin Khilji, the antagonist in the story.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali said that the rumors of a dream sequence between queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji are incorrect and that no portrayal hurtful to the community’s sentiments exist in the film.

“While different historical perspectives can be there, attempt to falsify historical facts cannot be tolerated,” he said, adding that it became even more necessary in the current age when children acquired knowledge through the audio-visual medium rather than by reading.

Terming the threats by fringe groups against the makers of 'Padmavati' as wrong, Mr Singh said the concerned state government should have acted against those issuing such statements.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the controversy surrounding Hindi film “Padmavati” was “totally absurd”.

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Singh said, But at the same time, it is the responsibility of the producers of 'Padmavati' to ensure that history is projected in the correct perspective.
