The story of India's partition in 1947

The story of Indian partition in 1947 goes back to the early 20th century in 1905 when Lord Curzon divided the undivided subdivision administrative Bengal Presidency into two parts- 'The East Bengal and Assam Muslim majority' and 'The Hindu majority province of West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. This was carried forward by the Muslim elite in 1906 who insisted a separate electorate for the Muslims and proportional legislative representative in the British Government. The 'All India Muslim League' was formed the same year which was later on headed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah who termed it as the Muslim awakening and wanted the creation of Pakistan. He and the members of the league chalked out a map of Pakistan and presented to the British government in which they included-'The eastern part of Bengal and Assam; 'The western part of Kashmir and Punjab'

In 1937 'The Indian provincial election' saw a landslide win of minority Muslims in the majority of Muslim dominated areas. After this Jinnah was firm on his opinion of a separate country for the Muslims called Pakistan to which Gandhi ji and Nehru vehemently opposed at first. Several meeting between 'The Indian National Congress' and 'The Muslim league' failed to convince Jinnah which turned into a legal demand after in 1946 election 90 percent of the votes went to 'The Muslim league' from all the Muslims in India.

Thus the then viceroy to India Lord Mountbatten had no other option but to agree to Jinnah's demand of a separate country for Muslims known as Pakistan. Fearing that his demand may not materialize Jinnah started a 'Direct action campaign' which upset some 'Indian National congress' leaders and they agreed to the partition of undivided India into India and Pakistan. In June 1947 undivided India was finally divided into India and Pakistan when Lord Mountbatten handed over the power of the rule of India to our first Prime minister Sri Jawaharlal Nehru and that of Pakistan to Jinnah.

Riots and violence followed that keeps erupting still now. The rift between India and Pakistan still remains unsolved.

India and Pakistan's partition is clearly an unwise decision. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah took the most devastating decision by separating a united country by cruelly categorizing them into two kinds of religion. Earlier when Muslims and Hindus used to live together, the world was a happier place. Now that they have parted, nothing seems to come to a standstill. We fight incessantly. All time brothers, have now turned into fierce rivals. It has been 'the ruthless decision' of all decades. It can never call for peace unless reversed.
