Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is a place of many unknown facets. It is a place with lots of tourist attractions. It attracts visitors from across the world. It is one of the greatest historical cities of India. It is a place containing numerous monuments, temples, and palaces bearing architectural significance. 

1. During the British regime, Kolkata had been a very important place for Britishers after London. It was the capital of India also until 1911.

2. This fabulous city is considered as a ‘City of Joy,' ‘Cultural Capital of India,' ‘City of Palaces,' and ‘City of Processions.'

3. It is India’s second largest city.

4. Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata holds the highest seating capacity. It holds the third place in the entire world regarding seating capacity.

5. It is a dream place of bookworms. It consists of second largest used book center where you can find almost any kinds of the books.

6. One of the busiest stations in India is the Howrah station of Kolkata. It is also one of the largest and oldest railway complexes of India.

7. Hand-pulled rickshaws are still in existence in Kolkata.

8. Mother Teresa spent most of her life in Kolkata. Hence, this place is considered as the second hometown of hers.

9. Port of Kolkata or Kidderpore Port is the oldest port of India.

10. Kolkata has the largest public library which is India’s National Library.
