What Is Latitude?

In simple words, the term latitude represents the distance of any point on Earth from the equator. Latitude is usually marked by the horizontal lines on the globes and maps. It is estimated to be at 0 degrees at the equator, which reaches up to 90 degrees at the two poles. The position of latitude is a major determinant in the climate of a particular region.

How Does Latitude Affect Climate?

Lower latitude represents the area around the Equator. This region is said to receive the most direct and consistent form of sunlight throughout the year. Ergo, lower latitude would naturally imply a warmer climate.

Higher latitude, on the other hand, is closer to the South and the North Pole. Places on higher latitude have a cooler climate as a result of a lesser amount of sunlight in these regions. This implies how the latitude is a major factor for climate change across various regions.
