Beauty is a concept that has been hotly debated over history.Complexion or skin color plays a very
important role for a girl to get married. People say “Your daughter is so fair;
you need not worry about her wedding”. In our society for a girl to get married
there is no requirement of education or culture or character. If she is born
with a fairer complexion than their son than she is very much eligible to get a
very good groom and family. And at times the groom family doesn’t demand for
dowry also.
Problems starts when the girl
is either dark or of whitish complexion. There is no problem if groom is of any
complexion. Importance is only for a girl. Girls need importance in society for
equality neither for complexion. Being fair or dark is god’s gift.
Our society needs to have a very
broad thinking on complexion. In India, dark skinned girls are still subjected to
taunts and pity. In the matrimonial columns, people still advertise for a fair
bride. I’m whitish skinned and very proud of that; I feel.
