In this modern world, we all have so much tensions in our mind and feel tired with the work load. How to get rid of this tension from our system? How to become free from various ailments and diseases? The ideal solution would be “YOGA”!!!
We can be proud to say that the most popular disciplinary poses of yoga have its roots in India and it is spreading worldwide due to the good health benefits that it provides to the person who practices it say yogi (male) and yogini (female).
But before going to the health benefits lets crack out the meaning of yoga. It is actually derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj” meaning the union of one’s body and soul with the ultimate universal supreme spirit (God).
We do not call it an exercise like aerobic or anaerobic type, but instead, it is a discipline that one needs to practice every day in order to have the connection with the almighty. In exercises, we get drained out of our energy whereas in yoga we get energised and at the same time make our body flexible and gain control over the mind. This actually cleanses the body and the mind thus making a person strong and healthy not only physically, but also mentally.
These days in the modern world of fast food culture, nobody has time for workouts and at a very tender age of mid 20s, many of us become hypertensive and diabetic. Whereas yogis and yoginis, even at the age of 75 and above have a normal heart rate and pulse rate feasting on sweets without any restrictions.
We might wonder how lucky they are to be born this way? This is not just inborn, but regular practice of yoga can do wonders to our human system.
As a child at such a tender age, without realising, the baby makes poses like crawling (one of the surya namaskar poses), when done, lies flat (shavasana), all these are yoga poses aren’t they? But as we grow older we forget them and enter a mechanical world becoming rigid physically and mentally.
How to combat this situation? The best solution is back to square 1, go for yoga!!!
When we wake up in the morning, it is said that the body will be stiff as we have slept the entire night. Therefore the first yoga pose would be to salute the sun god, and that is surya namaskar. This one yogic set of poses has enormous benefits like making the body and mind flexible by improving the blood circulation, postures and functioning of the internal organs, reduces the weight by burning the excess fat, etc, etc.

It is advised that we do surya namaskar two times, right leg first and left leg next. When we do the first set of namaskar poses, we can understand the rigid nature of the body whereas with the second namaskar, the body would have become flexible and we could touch our foot easily. That is the power of surya namaskar!!!
Some may feel that they do not have time in the morning to do these asanas. But with the kind of goodness that it would shower on our mind and body, can’t we spare just a few minutes for our health’s good sake.
We can begin the yogasana with the two sets of surya namaskars. Then the other asanas can be done in the standing pose, seated pose, and lying pose, followed by meditation or pranayama. The last one would be shavasana or the resting pose.

For yoginis, the most ideal yoga pose would be halasana. This one asana can do wonders to the female reproductive system. There are instructors who would suggest just sun salutation and halasana for women.

To be on the safer side, yoga must be learnt from a trained yoga teacher and once learnt, it can be done as a family at home. This would inculcate the good habit of doing things as a family and if done regularly, brings in enormous benefits to the entire family as a whole.
Anything when done regularly becomes a part of our routine life. Spare some time for yoga just like brushing, bathing, eating, sleeping, etc. to lead a healthy disease free life. So go for it!!!
