Lipstick Under My Burkha

Alankrita Srivastava's 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' is releasing after much controversy with the censor board over the content and the subject of the movie. Challenging the stereotypes of the society, the drama should serve as a good deviation from mainstream movies.

But before you watch the movies, read its reviews first!

The Hindu

The fiction it also lends a delightful, whimsical, humorous touch to what could have otherwise been a grave and somber matter. Lipstick…remains breezy in its audacity. It is unapologetic in giving a platform to something largely brushed under the carpet—women’s sexuality—without making a big deal about it.

Indian Express

What makes the film it is, is the upfront, frank manner in which female desire and fantasy are treated, running like a strong, vital thread through the film. Dreams can keep you alive, and age is just a number.

Firstpost

'Lipstick Under My Burkha' could potentially upset many, many people. It has the ability to grab a person by the collar, shake them up and make them feel unsettled even if they refuse to introspect.

The story offers the right dose of humor and sarcasm while narrating the battles of four women, who can only dream of living life on their own terms. However, the climax could surely have been better! The filmmaker could have at least let the ladies live their “lipstick wale sapne” in a reel, because that seldom happens in real, especially for women residing in small towns.

Bollywood Life

A must watch for some terrific performances by the lead cast, Lipstick Under My Burkha' will hopefully bring to light some issues that need attention and start a discussion or a conversation between women who are struggling for the most basic right in life – one to be happy.
