Of Jack and Rose’s eternal love story in Titanic, the adventures of Jurassic Park, Hercules depiction of muscular strength, James Bond diaries and the tales of Batman, Hollywood has delivered a plethora of movies in the year 1997 that did exceptionally well all across the globe.
As we walk down the memory lane, here are some top Hollywood movies that will turn 20 in 2017:
Titanic
The American epic romance drama, released in 1997, won the hearts of millions for its exemplary screenplay, eternal love story and the subsequent tragedy. Directed by James Cameron, the movie starring Leonardi Di Caprio and Kate Winslet narrated the fictionalized account of the sinking of British passenger ship RMS Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912.
Tomorrow Never Dies
The high octane action packed movie, eighteenth spy film in the James Bond series, featured Pierce Brosnan as the MI6 agent, who was on a mission to unearth a sinister plot. While the title of the movie seems appropriate, did you know that this title was a result of a typo error in the draft? The actual title of the movie was ‘Tomorrow Never Lies', but eventually it was released with the typo error.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
With Jurassic Park’s phenomenal success, director Steven Spielberg took no time to direct the sequel to the science fiction adventure-monster drama that explores the adventures with extinct reptiles, Dinosaurs. Starring Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore and Richard Attenborough, the movie acted as an extension of the already existing franchise.
Lolita
The second screen adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel by the same name, Lolita was surrounded by a string of controversies, owing to its cast that included a child molester as the main lead. Nonetheless, the movie did exceptionally well at the box office.
Men In Black
The highest grossing action buddy comedy of all time, featuring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, was a huge hit in its time. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the movie unfolds the adventures of agents Jay and Kay who fought against extraterrestrial creatures to save the earth from an invasion.
Con Air
Directed by Simon West, Con Air went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year in 1997. But did you know that the movie’s most daring scene where the plane carrying the prisoners crashed into The Sands Casino in Las Vegas was shot in real and not in the studio, with over 14 cameras capturing the dramatic crash?
Good Will Hunting

The American drama film, an Academy Award winner for best original screenplay, was a financial success at the box office. As a matter of fact, out of 15 movies directed by Director Gus Van Sant, the business by Good Will Hunting was equivalent to the total collection by the other 14 movies. Not just that, starring Robbin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck among others, the movie was originally about a math genius and his buddy who outsmarted the government. However, the story was later evolved to give it an emotional appeal.
My Best Friend’s Wedding
The Comedy drama, directed by PJ Hogan, is a hilarious take on what exactly happens when a girl realizes her latent love for her best friend right before the latter’s wedding. While many remember the movie for Julia Robert’s role, did you know that Sarah Jessica Parker was the first choice for that role?
The Devil’s Advocate
Based on Andrew Neiderman’s novel by the same name, the supernatural American drama, starring Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves, and Charlize Theron, addresses the issue of morality in the era of corruption. For that matter, the director chose to display the protagonist’s losing morality by darkening his suit’s color as the movie progresses.
As Good As It Gets
Directed by James L Brooks, this romantic comedy drama did an exceptional job at exploring human relationships. Much to the amazement of many, its lead, Jack Nicholson won an Academy Award for Best Actor. However, many do not know that Jim Carrey was also a choice for the male lead.
