How Many Hollywood Films Lag Behind The Earnings Of Baahubali 2?

Movies that are released in Bollywood are forever in the competition to gain a slot in the 100 crore club and to rake in the moolah. Their earnings are always compared and slotted against each other.

In this extremely competitive environment where producers are forever counting their lucky stars that their movie beats the box office collection of other movies, one giant stood tall. The magnum opus that has spelled magic on Indian screen has turned the impossible into possible, The Baahubali Franchise.

Baahubali: The Beginning had already amazed the audience and earned around Rs 6.5 billion. The makers though had no idea that the rage and madness that their movie would start, becoming a popular cultural figure and whose second installment would eventually shatter all records. The fabulous movie revolves around two major characters essayed by Prabhas and Rana Daggubati who fight to be the rightful heir of an ancient kingdom and majorly focuses on the age-old concept of good vs. evil. The movie also features a strong supporting cast of Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, and Sathyaraj.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had audiences in eager anticipation which was evident in its box office collection the first day which was more than Rs 100 crore. The movie was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. It went on to earn around Rs 6 billion in its first week at the box office which is still an unofficial figure, the actual could be much higher. While it has left its competitors in India far behind and despite months at the box office, it is still giving a solid competition to Hollywood movies.

The epic creation of S.S Rajamouli was going neck and neck with Vin Diesel’s The Fate and the Furious which earned $5,093,000 on its second Friday. Bahubali 2 though had earned $4.75 million and took the second spot at the box office.

What is seriously surprising is that this war fantasy epic could give an academy award winner and a globally recognized name that has a legion of fans a run for their money. This is exactly what happened with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson whose movie The Circle earned far less than Baahubali 2. The Circle is a techno-thriller and one of the most eagerly awaited movie of the year which would obviously culminate in great earning, but sadly that wasn’t so. While the total earning of Baahubali 2 is $ 10.13 million in its first weekend at the US box office, The Circle has roughly made around earned $ 9.32 million. The difference though not staggeringly great is enough to put Baahubali 2 ahead at the box office chart.

The only movies that did better business than Baahubali 2 was Fate of the Furious that earned around $19,389,780 and remains the highest grosser at the box office. The second movie that earned equally well is a comedy movie starring Salma Hayek and Kristen Bell. The movie earned around $12,018,500. The third movie that was the top grossing movie with an enormous weekend box office collection was Baahubali 2 with $10.13 million. It is the only Indian movie that is among the top three top grosser despite being released with some big names.

These giant figures are really not much of a big deal in Hollywood as movies such as James Cameron directed Avatar has a box office collection of US$ 2 billion and is the highest grossing movies of all time. Joining it are the other major blockbuster, Titanic and the recent Star Wars installment Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is only the first time that an Indian movie has left just a mark on an international box office.
