In children, the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes can develop within a very short period of time, which can often be just a few weeks. Its symptoms include increased thirst and frequent urination, extreme hunger, fatigue and weight loss. Also, in case your child is also showing irritability or sudden behavior changes, or also complaining of blurred vision, then perhaps you should get him or her tested. In addition to that, girls having Type 1 diabetes are also prone to developing genital yeast infection and babies can develop diaper rash which is caused by yeast.
Besides, I believe that you should not even wait for your child to develop symptoms of the condition and get them tested if you know that they are at the risk of developing it. The first risk factor is family history. Children who are born into families that have a history of diabetes are at a major risk of developing it. Furthermore, the presence of certain genes and race of the child also indicate towards the development of Type 1 diabetes at an early age. External factors include exposure to certain viruses and improper diet.
