Banana leaf comes from banana trees. It has wonderful health benefits and brings out the best taste in food.

Serving food on a banana leaf is very hygienic. We just have to sprinkle water on it and clean the leaf before eating. It is eco friendly and easy to dispose whereas plastic plates worsen the environment. Banana leaves degrades quickly and requires little water for cleaning. There is no necessity of soap as well.The banana leaf is full of antioxidants that prevent cancer and Parkinson's disease. 

Cooking food in banana leaf is one of the way to get all the benefits of antioxidants. This may be the reason banana leaves symbolize prosperity and is used in rituals. You can also use dried and decomposed banana leaves as pattal plates. For drinking liquid food we can use the cup sort of Dona, which is made out of dry banana leaves.

The hot food served on banana leaf absorbs chlorophyll from the leaf. The leaf can also hold large volume of food. It adds a nice aroma to the food. They are anti-diabetic. Food eaten in pattal plates help in curing diarrohea, skin disease and female sterility.

Banana leaves have EGCG. EGCG are polyphenol molecules, making them anti-fungal, anti-bacterial. EGCG is also present in grapes and green tea. The food wrapped with these molecules can absorb EGCG fastly.

It is easy to pack food with banana leaf. Cut the banana leaf and wash it. Fry it in direct flame for two minutes. Now it is ready for packing. Keep the food, fold it and secure a thread around it. Use banana leaves for shaping batter before deep frying. Wipe the leaf with water before using. Try cooking a few recipes like idli in banana leaf.

Beautiful decorations for pooja can be done with a banana leaf. The banana leaf is also used for treating sprains and burns. Just tie a piece of banana leaf over the sprain or burn. It works like magic. When poison is served on a banana leaf, it changes in colour.

After a massage and  applying warm oil, cover your body with banana leaf. This helps in absorbing the toxins. The disposed banana leaves after eating, can be given to cows. These days we can see cows eating plastic plates.
