We generally try not to see a doctor for small chronic itches or pains thinking they would subside themselves with time. But, sometimes not seeing a clinician for smaller problems leads to bigger problems with inevitable consequences. One thing we should understand that doctors haven’t been produced to scare us rather help us by giving the right treatments at the right time. So, we must not ignore it! One such problem is ‘Hemorrhoids’. It causes immense pain but most fear to consult a doctor for the illness. Leading us to wonder, what are Hemorrhoids?’ Let us understand!
The distended veins in the lowest part of the anus and rectum are Hemorrhoids. At times, the walls of the blood vessels stretch so thin that veins swell up and get irritated when you poop. Another name for Hemorrhoids is ‘Piles.'

There are two types of the same, namely, ’external and internal’. Internal is deep inside the rectum and are not visible from outside. They are often painless. Their first sign can be seen in rectal bleeding. External are visible as they are around the anus. It is painful and hence is called protruding or prolapsed hemorrhoid.
What Causes Hemorrhoids?
#1. Pregnancy: It is a very common scenario with pregnant women as the uterus becomes enormous, it presses on the vein in the colon leading it to bulge.
#2. Aging: Its occurrence is very normal amongst adults in the 45-65 age group. Nonetheless, it does not mean that the children and young people can’t get trapped.
#3. Lifting: Lifting heavy objects can also lead to this problem. So, be careful!
#4. Obesity: It is also common to people who do not take care of their diet. A high fiber diet is a must to prevent yourself.
#5. Sitting: Sitting for extended time periods especially on a toilet seat can make your health worse!
What Are The Symptoms Of Hemorrhoids?

#1. Painless bleeding: If you notice painless bleeding on your toilet paper, consider seeing a doctor as soon as possible. Do not wait!
#2. Itching: If you feel any sort of itching in the anal area, consider it as one of the symptoms of Hemorrhoids.
#3. Feces: One of the worst symptoms is unintentional feces leak out.
#4. Lumps- some protruding from the anal region which could be painful.
#5. Discomfort: You will sense pain or soreness in the anal region.
How Can Hemorrhoids Get Treated?
There are varied treatments for ‘Hemorrhoids.' Let us look at some:
#1. Ice packs: I’m sure you must have heard the perks on the application of ice packs, haven’t you? Applying them on the swollen spot many times a day can bring down the pain and swell for a while.
#2. Painkillers: The easiest way to ease the discomfort and the pain are by taking pain killers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen (Tylenol).
#3. Ointments: Over the counter (OTC) creams or suppositories, which contain hydrocortisone, are available. There are also pads which contain witch hazel, or a topical numbing agent.
