Difference between bonesetters and chiropractors is a common question which is often asked. Both the professions are generally categorized as manual therapies. Joint manipulation is defined as the passive movement of a joint to achieve a therapeutic effect. This frequently involves the joints of the spine and is most commonly performed by hand. The popularity of manipulation has grown significantly over the past two decades and has come to be known as the wealth of high quality. Studies have proven that manual therapies are very safe and effective, most notably for treating low back pain.
Bonesetting is an art handed down by several different families in several different societies. It is basically a method of giving physical relief of pain by “bonesetting”. The knowledge of how to perform it is generally a family practice and remains within the family.
Chiropractic, on the other hand has a rigorous educational background similar to that of an MD degree, plus similar prerequisites for acceptance into the programs by requisite degrees, necessary curriculae, and number of requisite class hours. It is a proper medical course which can be learned by each and all without being connected to a specific family. Chiropractic in every state has physical medicine, modalities such as ultrasound and elecrostimulation, in addition to nutrition required to aid the patient to reach optimal health, which bonesetters don't.
Chiropractic realizes that affecting the function of internal organs affects physical pain, so there is special emphasis on whole person health, which offers from bonesetting. Chiropractors are educated in all manner of diagnosis and can order any noninvasive blood, urine or imaging test (such as MRIs, CT scans, x-rays, etc.), none of which a bonesetter can do

One question that all chiropractors and bonesetters hear all the time is how are they different from the other. Most of us really do not realize the difference between the two and when we actually find ourselves needing one, we approach the other not realizing who or what it is that we actually need. I suppose you are having the same or a similar problem. What chiropractors do is that they make use of hands-on spinal manipulation as well as several other manipulative methods or treatments in order to adjust the alignment of an individual’s musculoskeletal structure. The area of their expertise is the spine. Hence, they help an individual get his or her body posture right without needing a surgery or any other medical treatment for their problem. Now while chiropractic treatments one might say are relatively new or modern, the practice of bonesetting has been around for generations and includes qualified as well as unqualified practitioners. In many countries, it is also somewhat connected to certain religious orders.
