If one of your friends lately tweeted on your account with a #ByeFelicia comment, and you have been wondering what does 'Bye Felicia' mean, then you have all our sympathies.
The story behind #ByeFelicia goes back to a 20-year old catch phrase from the movie 'Friday' ( a must watch). The phrase has exploded the entire pop culture so much so that VH1 built an entire show based on the slang term.
Now that we have mentioned the movie, we’d like to take you through the scene from where this phrase came up. The scene was such that Smokey and Craig, the leads are intervened by their neighbor Felicia. As soon as she arrives, she asks to borrow their car and then borrow their joint. Craig eviscerated her just by saying “Bye Felicia.” It sent her a message that they are not concerned about what she has to say.
The term since then has been used to ask someone to dismiss. This person is usually very annoying or irritating. The phrase caught up with people instantly, but its original cool dismissal is impossible to recreate. It is one of the sassiest and passive-aggressive forms of saying f*** you to the people you hate.

ByeFelicia became a meme in 2014 and flooded the whole Facebook. It has been used as a slang word to tell someone to buzz off or get away. These people are usually very irritating and therefore are asked to go away.
According to some social media sites, the phrase became “a thing” in 2008 when the urban dictionary defined it a "farewell to someone deemed unimportant." In 2011, a clip labeled “Bye Felisha” was released by a user to erase off all the confusions.
The same website claimed that #ByeFelicia was tweeted for more than 35,000 times in August 2014. The popularity of the phrase didn’t just catch the attention of VH1 but was able to find a place in Jordin Sparks’ latest releases. She released her mix tape with #ByeFelicia.
The VH1 series is expected to be as good as the phrase, and hopefully, it will stay high on the popularity charts too.
