When your immune system sabotages cells in your pancreas, it is known as Type 1 Diabetes. These cells are known as beta cells. They are responsible for making insulin. Type 1 Diabetes usually occurs during childhood or adolescence years. However, it can onset even in adulthood. The production of insulin becomes insufficient for controlling the blood sugar levels due to the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas.
While Type 2 Diabetes is often avoidable, Type 1 Diabetes is not. It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system destroys the beta cells in the pancreas.
