Can Vitamin D pills stop cold & flu ?

One of the most common ailment that people suffer is common colds and upper respiratory infections.

During the cold and flu season, people usually get attacked by the harmful viruses and they tend to sneeze and cough. Often the symptoms are accompanied by fever and uncontrolled chilling. Though doctors usually prescribe antibiotics for the fever, but researchers conclude the fact that Vitamin D is effective in cold and flu treatment.

Modern people usually compensate their daily vitamin requirements through fortified juices, food supplements, veggies and fruits.
It is a known fact that Vitamin D is an immune buster and it protects your bones from unwanted degradation or damage.

Regular intake of Vitamin D also minimizes the risk of respiratory infections, including colds and flu. People residing in cold and temperate regions, often do not have adequate exposure to sunlight and thus they do not get Vitamin D. Low levels of the particular vitamin not only leads to a weaker immune system, but your body can also be infected by pesky viruses in the winter months.

Vitamin D Benefits

• The primary function of Vitamin D is to regulate the amount of phosphate and calcium in the body. These minerals play a key role in the maintenance of healthy bones, teeth and muscles. The low percentage of Vitamin D in children can lead to rickets, and their bone becomes fragile.
• In adults, deficiency of Vitamin D leads to osteomalacia (bone pain and muscle ache).
• However, a high level of Vitamin D in the body can also cause heart and kidney problems.
