The Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry (Drugs Control) needs all chemists to upload the details of their sales on an e-portal within a stipulated time.
Approx 8 lakh chemists across the nation, who are members of the AIOCD (All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists) will go on strike on May 30 to protest against the government’s plan to introduce e-portals for the sale of medicines.
The Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry (Drugs Control) asks all the chemists to upload the details of their sales on an e-portal within the period of given time.
All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists has called the move impractical, referring to the lack of IT infrastructure across the nation. They also believe that this proposal will be expensive and would require hard work.
In few recent months, the government has shown interest in promoting of generic medicines as well as they have tried to take steps to rein in anti-microbial resistance to help keep track of sale of drugs.
Another reason for protest by AIOCD is the online sale of medicines. The president of AIOCD Jagannath Shinde said “Our strike is to bring forward the ground realities faced by chemists and patients. We request the government to rethink and cancel the implementation of the e-portal,”
