What Is The Difference Between LCD and LED Television?

Both the LED and LCD television screens are quite popular in the TV market. But at times, it becomes confusing for the consumer to differentiate between the two. Especially while determining the technology, picture quality, and affordability.

So to avoid any more complications, let's first know what the two screens are all about and what is the difference between LCD and LED TV.

What is LCD TV?

LCDs (Liquid Crystal Display) can mostly be defined as smooth boards that portray electronic visuals with the quality of liquid crystal. These are mostly used in electronics that require smaller screens. Computers, notebooks, smart phones, televisions are some of the examples.

The liquid crystals present do not emit light directly and make use of backlights. This means LCDs require outside lighting to produce visible images on the screens. Therefore, the brightness, contrast and color performance depends on the light that comes from the external source. This technology is a replacement of the bulky cathode ray tube displays.

What is LED TV?

LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) are most widely used televisions nowadays. These consume lower amounts of energy, display vibrant and sharp colors along with better brightness as well as contrast. LEDs are fundamentally backlit to power up the LCD panel.

The illuminating diodes can either be placed behind the screen or can be around the edges. LEDs make use of the distinctive color wheel lights that cause the screen to appear more realistic. Blacks seem to be black. And whites do not resemble off white or cream but remains as actual white.

LEDs have a better viewing angle with crisp sound quality. It's a new generation technology. You get flat screens, these are expensive than LCDs and provide a greater balance to the color saturation along with being a standard for every home/ workplace.

The Difference Between LED and LCD TV

#1. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display whereas LED stands for Light Emitting Diode.

#2. LEDs are much thinner and flatter as compared to LCDs.

#3. LED displays are brighter and have excellent resolution quality. LCDs give out somewhat similar quality.

#4. LEDs consume lesser power whereas LCDs are the opposite.

#5. LEDs have greater viewing angles whereas LCDs do not provide a significant variety.

#6. Environmental impact is the lowest when it comes to LEDs. LCDs create a negative disposal impact.

#7. For LEDs, the expected life span can go up to as long as 30 years. But LCDs sustain for around two decades.

#8. LED TVs are quite pricey but worth the expense. LCDs are affordable and reasonable screens.

#9. LEDs are single component devices whereas LCDs consist of several other parts.

#10. LEDs are capable of emitting light whereas LCD cannot.

#11. LEDs produce better color quality as compared to LCDs.

The Conclusion

If we make an absolute comparison of the LED and LCD TV screens, LEDs outstand its counterpart. Though on one side, LEDs are expensive but produce better sound and color quality, on the other hand, are LCDs that are affordable and doable for a majority of users. It depends on the individual usage what one would prefer to opt for.
