What are the Different Types of Tomatoes?

The secret to a better life is the rigorous workout and delicious savory food. They make life appear fulfilling. However, there is one food that not only helps you boost your metabolism but also results in glowing bright skin. Yes, we are talking about shiny, healthy tomatoes.

Did you know that there are several types of tomatoes available now, and it's difficult to make the correct choice. 

They come in several colors, from purple to white and pink, yellow, orange. Not to forget there also are striped tomatoes. Tomato variety (names) is enormous. Therefore, here we list the common types of tomatoes used worldwide.

#1. Cherry Tomatoes

This tiny variant is the best tomato type for salads. These are juicier and sweeter. But these also have higher sugar content. It is said that smaller the fruit, higher is its sugar level. These are delicate tomato varieties that run only about an inch in diameter. And cherry tomatoes are common types of tomatoes available around the globe.

#2. Roma or Plum Tomatoes

Roma tomatoes are also called as the plum tomatoes which aren't really juicy, are thicker on the outside and have fewer seeds as compared to other tomato varieties. Romas contain a lower water content, they have a chewy flesh and are synonymous with Italy. Plum or Roma tomatoes are preferred for preparing delicious pasta sauces or salad where excessive moisture isn't required. The moisture resistant quality gives them a longer shelf life.

#3. Heirloom Tomatoes

This is a popular variety amongst the gourmet chefs. Heirlooms come in larger varieties. But the biggest downfall is that they remain ripened for a very shorter period of time. Heirlooms are different, weird yet wonderful and exude exotic flavors.

#4. Black Tomatoes

These are an exotic offering and have a deep violet color. Black tomatoes are salty along with being soft and juicy. One best tomato for salad is the black tomato that needs minimum adornments to bring out its distinctive flavor.

#5. Beefsteak/ Globe Tomatoes

Beefsteaks are king of the world of tomato varieties. These are heavy, large and pulpy tomatoes that can perfectly match the size of a round mozzarella. Beefsteaks are also referred to as the globe tomatoes because of their size. One can easily identify these types of tomatoes. And globes can weigh up to two pounds.

#6. Big Boy vs. Better Boy Tomato

There's a difference in production of the two types of tomato varieties. Big boy ripens and gets ready for harvesting in about 78 days. These grow up to 4 or 5 feet in height and can spread up to 2 feet in length. Big boy is also called as Early Girl tomato. Better Boy tomato variety is large, gorgeous and incredibly productive. These are a high yielding diversity and carry a superior flavor. Both the tomato varieties are modern tomato hybrids.

#7. Bush Tomatoes

These types of tomatoes are essentially baby beefsteaks. Being uniformly round with thinner skin, they contain distinctive and rich flavors to make for a perfect bite. Bush tomatoes have an explosive texture and are considered as the best tomatoes for eating, especially in salads.
