How do Tibetans feel about China?

Tibet has always been an emotional issue for the Tibetan population especially the generations which migrated to India after His Holiness The Dalai Lama sought refuge in India in the year 1959. Tibet used to be a sovereign land until 1959. However, Chinese interest in the region grew after 1952 and they made every effort to claim it lawfully and unlawfully.

This ultimately led to HH The Dalai Lama seeking refuge in India. Along with him a large number of Tibetans came over and made India their home. These Buddhist monks have always believed in peaceful co-existence which China never advocated.

Therefore, it is but natural for these people to feel anguished as large numbers of monks get killed in Tibet every year. Stories of torture always reach Tibetans living in India and this fuels their anger further.

The point of view of people living in Tibet might be somewhat different and some of them have accepted Chinese occupation. This, however, does not mean that these people do not seek freedom from Chinese.

The issue of Tibet has also been ignored internationally and this too makes this issue more complex. It is for the people of Tibet to decide and see for themselves as to what course they would like to adopt in future.
