We often forget things in the hustle bustle of life. Strangely and sadly enough, at times, people do not follow on things that are important and worth remembering. Absent-mindedness can sometimes mar your relationship with others in life. It is a game of memory, and everyone differs from each other. So it is nothing to be embarrassed about, we can keep track of things easily by following some mantras in life.

An absent mind in life can cause many problems. You should be mentally present at a place where you are supposed to. Yes, there are times when we lose track of things and forget them in the process, owing to several reasons. It might be due to excessive work, overload of responsibilities or one’s nonchalance. Given below are the pointers for you on how not to be an absent-minded person.

#1. Make A List

A list must be made so that one can record the daily activities. When you record events in a journal or a diary, a list is created in accordance with the day, date and time. You will not forget things because ultimately you will check your list. Being an absent-minded person can sometimes be a bane. There are important events and things in life which must not be ignored at any cost.

So if you stop being absent-minded, create lists that can help you figure the important dates and events in your life. You can also mark them differently in accordance with your priorities.

#2. Get A Schedule

You need to maintain a schedule. A daily regime can help you become disciplined and punctual. If you have a schedule, you will be accustomed to a certain habit, and you won’t forget things. Imagine your life in proper order – you would be available for everything that is important, and you will land in the good books of people naturally. Scheduling in life is very important as you become used to events in life and there is zero probability of yours being an absent-minded person.

Well, even if you are one, start from today itself. Bring about changes in life, incorporate things that bring order in life so that you do not miss out on things that must be attended. So, have a routine and stick to it. Implementation is what decides the order in your life, merely deciding on something doesn’t count.

#3. Assign Responsibilities

Bear this in mind that you cannot do everything. We are not machines; we are human beings with limited capacities and abilities. It is next to impossible to be successful at every task in life. Therefore, assign duties to people around you. Mark people for tasks so that your burden could be lessened. If you take the entire responsibility onto you, your productivity will be less, and you will forget things easily in the mess of other things. So, do things which do not burden you. Ask people to help you; they can be your friends and family members.

For instance, if you have to hit the gym, you can ask you, sister or brother, to pick up your laundry. The work will be divided this way. If you want to stop being absent-minded, you have to divide the work. There is no other option because you cannot be perfect in all ways.

#4. Stick To One Thing At A Time

It is multitasking that causes the problems which then multiply further. Do not involve yourself in more than one task. Sometimes people do many things simultaneously due to which they tend to fail to recall things they should remember. If you want to pay attention to things, you have to stop being absently minded. When you have many tasks, you do things inefficiently and ineffectively because you cannot do everything in your mind. So do one thing at a time and stay committed to it no matter what. Chuck with the things that divert your attention from one thing that you are focused on.

#5. Visualize Problems Which Can Arise In Future

You need to see problems and the troubles beforehand which can arise in future and should try to solve them. If you are being absent-minded, it can affect others people as well. Your forgetfulness can hurt someone. Unknowingly you can injure someone’s feelings. So try your best not to offend people in any way due to your absent-mindedness. Be aware of things, be alert and cautious. One blunder can deteriorate everything. So, imagine the ramifications of the things you are doing. With the help of these ideas, you can improve yourself. You will try to remember things, by hook or crook, for fear of being rejected and neglected.

#6. Walk The Talk

If you keep on babbling and boasting without actually performing or putting your words against reality, people will pull faces and express their contempt for you. Also, if you stick to your words and make efforts to do things, you remember things. But for that, you have to walk the talk. Talking the talk is futile. It is easier said than done, they say. It rings so true in this context.

If people see their words and promises, they will be under pressure to fulfill it. When you do things, you remember them. Moreover, you need to keep in mind the promises you make or the words you say to people in the first place in order to stop being absent-minded.

One best way to avoid forgetfulness in life is to remind yourself constantly. You can make a habit of pausing yourself after something and reminding yourself of things you should not forget. This will make you more cognizant and increase your alertness as well.

You must have seen people using sticky notes in their offices or even near their beds. These notes help us to keep track of the events and things which we think we might forget. This sounds silly but this is important if you do not want to miss out on things. So, make full use of sticky notes and remind yourself of things with the help of these little, sticky notes, Small things come in great packages. These small notes can have a great impact on your life. So use them and get sorted in your life.

Set timers, time is very important. Time and tide wait for none. Make sure that you set timers when you have something important coming up. You need to set timers so that you don’t forget the major occurrence of events which are about to happen in your life. Timers help in relegating your absent-mindedness in the background and help you achieve what you want on time.

#10. Stay Committed

You should stay dedicated to avoid forgetfulness. Whatever thing you do, just do it perfectly. Commitment is very necessary as it will keep on reminding you that your purpose for something. Commitment helps you stay aware and apprised of things, and you will be able to monitor everything in the process.

#11. Be Patient

No matter what, try to be patient. There are many people out there who forget things and fail to do things on time. It is no big deal, except some situations, therefore stay relaxed and patient. Give yourself time to improve your memory and stick to something so that you can remember things and impress people around you.

You need to have a good sense of humor. If you have an inclination towards humor, you can indulge in light banter. Do not take everything too seriously. Try to keep the atmosphere light with your behavior and actions so that people feel entertained and light in your company. Maintain a healthy atmosphere and do not feel bad about your forgetfulness. Accept it that you forget things very easily, and it is but natural for humans to do that. So take it lightly and have fun and try to do things for fun.

Absent mindedness is considered one of the negative things. An absent-minded person is often derided,
condemned and looked down by people. The primary reason is the lack of concentration, so one must be
focused. Actually I know it is easier said than done. Sometimes we tend to forget things and we cannot
really do anything about it. What we can do is make a list – we can jot down important things. I am an
absent- minded person, frankly speaking. Though I am a little improved now, yet I show complete signs
of being an absent-minded person. Earlier I used to forget everything but I have incorporated certain
changes in my life which led me to forget things partially, not wholly. My mother asked me to write down
and paste things in my room in the form of short sticky notes. It actually helped a lot, guys! There was a
time in my life when I was really going through a rough patch in my life due to this forgetfulness. I lost
track of things, sometimes things used to be really important and it was then that I failed through and
through. My mother was my knight in the shining armor. She came to my rescue and took it bravely out
of this extreme phase when I had stooped facing people. She asked me not to do multiple things a too
many cooks spoil the broth. She asked me to do one thing at a time with complete dedication and full
commitment. Initially, it was little tough to change my habits and the things I was accustomed to but
slowly and gradually I did it. I grasped the art of being involved in one things and not try my hands at
various things. For instance, I just focused on my studies and did not care about domestic
responsibilities. My mother planned everything for me, I owe her a lot. She divided my work and my
work and responsibilities got divided. I could feel less burdened and I could remember few things. All I
realized was that I was into many things and that marred my concentration which was the reason of my
anxiety and problems faced by me. I maintained a schedule according to which I started working and
exercising. Once you get stick to a schedule, life becomes easy and in a proper order. My life was in a
chaos and my world was topsy-turvy due to which my thoughts were also in higgledy-piggledy manner.
The entire chain of thoughts got disrupted and all I used to receive was mortification and dejection. I just
want to tell you guys that you need to have a plan and if you are very involved in things around you,
slacken off the burden and things will solve automatically once you reduce the number of activities. Ask
other people to do things for you so that you can work easily on one thing instead of burying your head
in multiple things. To cut the long story short, just set reminders and enjoy your life without any
apprehensions and tensions.
