How to be Comfortable in your Own Skin?

Life often feels like a giant contest with our society constantly judging us on the basis of who's the prettiest, the smartest, and the most successful. But who determines those standards, anyway? Nobody knows that. And it is because of these determinants in life that we have not been able to feel comfortable in their skin. Feeling comfortable with yourself only implies not comparing yourself to others, and feeling okay with whatever choices you make in life. It includes accepting how you look, how much you weigh, having good self-esteem, accepting where you're at in life and the list goes on.

But at the end of the day, all that matters is you feeling comfortable with yourself. When you're truthfully pleased with yourself, you don't feel the need for comparisons, and you don't feel the need to do things just to impress others. And yet we all take time and some serious work to reach this point in life. Thanks to social media, life has only become more difficult. Have you ever had days when you thought you were happy, and then you scrolled through your Facebook wall and realized that people are much happier than you are? How did it make you feel? Depressed? Annoyed? Completely ruined your day? Well, yes that’s exactly what it does.

How To Be Comfortable In Your Skin?

The best and most reliable cure for getting past the comparisons is by doing things that lets you learn more about yourself. Once you figure out who 'you' really are, you'll be less likely to feel stunned by what other people are doing.

#1. Take Care Of Yourself

If you think that you are not good looking or you do not have a body to flaunt, then start taking care of yourself to feel comfortable in your skin. Inadequate sleep, not eating right, not drinking sufficient amounts of water can make you feel exhausted and look tired all day long. Your body is your biggest treasure, and you should always celebrate your body. Thank and honor your body by regularly cleaning and washing it, providing it with the right food and giving it the right amount of rest. You can also make a list of things that you need to do to take care of yourself to stay and feel healthy and energetic.

#2. Do What Makes You Happy

One of the best ways to figure out who you really are is by indulging in things that make you happy. It’s easy to get swept away with the flow when you feel low or bad about yourself. Don’t say yes to doing things only because other people are doing it. Do things only if they make you happy or excited. People who are comfortable in their skin know how to say 'no' and they aren't afraid to spend time doing things they enjoy. So if you want to sit back home and enjoy reading your favorite book instead of going out to a party, then, by all means, do so. You get a sense of authenticity when you start focusing on what you like to do.

#3. Embrace Your Flaws

Do you remember your teenage when you hated those pimples or your braces? Each one of us is born with some or the other physical flaw, be it freckles, or a giant nose, or maybe misshaped teeth and we all hate them. The first step towards feeling comfortable with yourself is to accept and embrace your physical flaws. It is with the time that you realize that your freckles are nothing but adorable and those bunny teeth are just so cute. Everyone has some flaw, but it is that flaw that makes them special, different and unique. Start loving yourself to let others love you. The more you accept your flaws, the more you start feeling comfortable in your skin.

#4. You Are Unique In Your Own Ways

For all those loud laughers who have been asked to 'shush' a lot of times and to all the sleepy heads who can sleep on the streets if allowed to, just be proud of what you are. Do not feel embarrassed or apologetic about who you are. Don’t let other people put you down because of things that make you unique and special. The world would be a dull place if we all were the same people. Just enjoy your uniqueness and make others fall in love with it too.

#5. Spend Some Time Alone

Each one of us should spare some time for ourselves to introspect about our feelings and opinions. Self-introspection helps us know and learn about our thoughts and emotions. In a world that craves for peace, making out some “Me Time” is a rebellious act. A life with 24*7 entertainments hardly leaves us with any time to sit back in a chair and just stare at the walls. But that’s why it is so important. Peace and silence might make you feel downright hellish, but that’s precisely why it is so important. No distractions, no noise, just you and some peace, lets you think about your actions and embrace them. As per Dunlop, "In order to be comfortable with yourself, you first need to be comfortable just being."

#6. Have High Spirits

In addition to a healthy body, it is important that you work towards keeping your soul happy and healthy too. Your soul is the most important part (virtual) of your body, and a dead soul will never let you to a feeling of being comfortable in your skin. Without inner peace, authenticity is transitory. Meditation is a great way to live in a place where peace is found in the present moment. Nothing helps your spirit soar as much as laughter. It helps you to see the world through younger eyes and reminds you that no matter what, every moment is filled with hope and possibilities.Take time out to nurture your spirit, be it by practicing yoga, walking on the beach, or simply relaxing. Start practicing activities like running, meditation or even writing a journal if that feeds your soul. It can surely help in keeping your mind occupied with creative thoughts. Reading, traveling and exploring new things is another great way to make you feel comfortable in your skin. Doing what makes you happy is a big step towards feeling comfortable in your skin. Finding your authenticity is all about finding yourself. And once you achieve that, you will be able to feel comfortable in your skin. When you make an effort to be who you are and be true to yourself, you will naturally feel attractive and unique. Also, remind yourself that beauty is never dependent on the approval of others. In, fact, beauty is very subjective, self-defined and self-created. You are the only person who can make yourself feel beautiful and priceless.

#7. Mirror-Mirror On The Wall, I Am The Prettiest Of Them All!

No, we are not asking you to turn into a narcissist, but just to gain a little confidence in yourself. When you look in the mirror, do not focus on your flaws, instead be thankful for your body to be the way it is because it defines you. Look beyond the flaws and you’ll be able to look at how beautiful you are. Your insecurities have nothing to do with your physical flaws, but about you not feeling comfortable in your skin. The moment you start accepting and acknowledging your flaws, you’ll feel the confidence and strength that you develop leaving behind the insecurities and fears.

No..no..no I completely disagree with this one because I have never been comfortable in my skin. We humans are just not born to be satisfied with anything that we have and we’ll live our whole lives wanting for more.
I am an average looking girl, who has a bunch of other average looking girls whom I like to call my friends. We have been friends since school times and the only thing that holds us together is the fact that none of us have ever been comfortable in our own skin. We always, trust me always keep cribbing about how we look, how fat we are, how short we are, how boring we are, how last we are and ultimately how unhappy we are. Saying that I’d also like to add that one of us is extremely pretty, the other one is super fun and I, well I am funny too!
People find us interesting and we have always been able to make new friends and yet we have never been comfortable in our own skins. All day all night we keep asking God to give us a little more height, a few more curves, a fresh looking skin and some hotness. I mean, did we ask for too much? I am sure not. But it just doesn’t happen.
As per me and my friends, no one can ever be comfortable in their skin because we always want something that we do not have. I wish I could be as pretty and bold as my friends, while they wish that they could have a figure like mine. While we crib to have boyfriends, the one who is in a relationship wants to be single.
We don’t lack confidence but we are not very comfortable with our bodies. I don’t invest in body hugging clothes so to avoid displaying all my curves and my love handles, but wearing loose clothes do not make me look hot. My friends stick to wearing dark colors and then cry about looking just the same in every picture. All of us have our own body issues and I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to come out of it.
I wish you and your friends do benefit from this article. Best Of Luck!
