How to become more Resilient in Life?

Have you ever used an elastic band? The property of an elastic band is that it is stretchable. Take an elastic band, stretch it to its full capacity and then release it. What did you observe? The band stretched to its fullest but when it was released, it came back to its original shape. The band holds anything you tie it with but it will not lose its elasticity because it is resilient. Do we stretch like that elastic when we face some difficult time in our life? Do we retain our shape, our truth and our existence? Can we call ourselves resilient? Are you resilient?

We all go through a time in life when we lose the essence of our existence, and we don’t know what to do anymore. We may have lost someone really close to us or may have lost a job that we really liked. Sometimes the problems are financial and sometimes it is a trauma that has hit us hard. Recovering from such problems is not easy, but we need to swim through the sea if we want to reach the shore. The sea is deep and dangerous. However, some people do not dive in even when they know how to swim because they are afraid of the water and some who cannot swim just flow with the waves and they land on the shore. What makes those some people cover the whole sea when they are not even trained swimmers? What stops those swimmers from diving in the sea? It is resilience that pushes the nonswimmers to swim across the sea. Resilience is the ability of a body to come back to recover when faced with difficulties. The nonswimmers wish to change the existing way of their life so they jump while the others are so occupied in their fears that they do not take the leap of faith. These people lack resilience.

Who Is Resilient?

We need resilience to be prepared for all difficult circumstances that may surround us in the future. A person who is resilient knows how to learn from their past. The mistakes and the failures teach them lessons that they remember the next time they find themselves in such situations. The resilient people bounce back and recover faster than those people who are not resilient. A resilient person has a positive outlook on life and is aware of the fact that life will not be the same forever. The life has some good things and some bad ones to offer. The accumulation of these creates the perfect balance in life. These people will experience the bitter and the sweet without complaining because they are not afraid of taking risks. They will stay grounded and grow stronger every time they fall. Therefore, we all need to become resilient so let us know how to become more resilient in life?

We as humans cannot know what our future holds for us. It may bring good opportunities to grow in life and it may bring something that devastates us. Both of these situations are inevitable and one can only hope that we do not face something from which recovering isn’t easy. Floods, famines, earthquakes and all the natural calamities destroy not just lands but also the people. A lot of us lose our loved ones and the trauma of the loss hits some of us deeply. Some of us are not able to come out of the trauma for years. I had known an aunt who lost her son in a tornado that had hit their house. She was shaken immensely and her pain would have been excruciating. She stopped eating and going out of her house. She would not speak to anyone for years because of which her health declined immediately. So, it is very important for us to become resilient. A person who is not resilient will suffer from an accident and will not be able to recover back from it. It is not necessary that the accident will be a calamity, it may be something as small as failing in a paper or losing a job. When a person is not resilient small incidents may take a toll on their minds. A student who failed in an exam may become depressed because he/she is not resilient. A man who lost his job may find it difficult to accept the fact and he may not even try to find another job due to the amount of emotional stress he is going through. A woman who faced a failure in her relationship may not find love again or may not even keep contact with a man. In this case, none of them is resilient and before we harm ourselves we should learn to become resilient in our life to able to come up with situations that may be hard for us.
