Do you know what the perimeter of a shape or how do you calculate the same?
Though calculation of perimeter is a basic level math, still many people have trouble calculating it. That is why we are bringing you this article about how you can calculate the perimeter of different shapes. Check it out.
How To Find Perimeter Of A Rectangle?
As everyone knows, a rectangle has four sides. So, to find the perimeter of the rectangle, all you have to do is add the lengths of the four edges. You must also know that in every rectangle, the opposites sides are of equal lengths; therefore, there are only two measures, the length of the rectangle and the breadth of the rectangle.
So, if the sides of a rectangle are 7 and 4 inches, you can find its perimeter as 7 + 7 + 4 + 4, which comes out to be 22 inches. There is also a formula to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle, which goes like 2 (L + B), where ‘L’ represents the length of the rectangle and ‘B’ its breadth.

How To Find Perimeter Of A Square?
A square is a four-sided shape in which all edges are of equal length and adjacent sides make an angle of 90 degrees with each other. Since all the sides of a square are of equal lengths, all you need to calculate its perimeter is the measure of the one hand.
Thus, if one side of a square is 5 inches, its perimeter can be calculated as 5 + 5 + 5 + 5, which comes out to be 20 inches. The same can also be calculated using the formula 4a, where ‘a’ is the length of a side of the square. In case you wish to avoid doing multiple additions, this is the formula you can use to find it.

How To Find Perimeter Of A Circle?
The perimeter of a circle, better known as circumference, is the length of its border. To find the circumference of a circle, what you need is its radius, which is the distance between the center of the circle and a point on its border or perimeter.
When you have the radius, you can put it in the formula 2πr, where ‘r’ represents the radius of the circle and ‘π ’ is the mathematical constant whose value can be taken as 22/7 or 3.14159. Therefore, even if you know the area of a circle, which is πr*r, you can find ‘r’ from there and ascertain the perimeter or circumference using it.

How To Find Perimeter Of Triangle?
The same logic that has been explained above a number of times goes into finding the perimeter of a triangle. Just like the perimeter of a rectangle or square is found by adding the measure of their all sides, the same can be done when you are dealing with a triangle. So, if the lengths of the three sides of a triangle are 5 inches, 6 inches, and 7 inches, its perimeter would be 5 + 6 + 7, or 18 inches.
It is important to note that triangles can be of different types. In case you are calculating the perimeter of an equilateral triangle, where all sides are equal, you can multiply the length of one side with 3 and you will get the perimeter.

we keep on saying that we do not study anything in school that we will be using in our daily life and keep on forgetting about math. And, I am not even talking about the basic addition, subtraction and multiplication. It's the concepts of mean, area and perimeter than can can in handy at different times in life. Anyways, getting back to your post, Quinn, it was really helpful and the way you explained the concept was quite nice.
