How to Get to Know Someone?

Have you ever tried hard to make a connection with a friend, co-worker or somebody you just recently met but failed at it miserably? Don’t panic. It is very not easy to find that right person with whom you can talk whatever you wish. But it is not impossible as well. If you really wish to know an individual deeply, then you must ask him some open and close ended questions to understand him or her. Remember, asking correct questions and taking out details from the other person is an incredible art in itself. Believe it or not!

We all have been in situations in which we really wished to know an individual but had no idea how to initiate. We meet several people on an everyday basis and find them interesting but hold no idea how to break the ice. And, such situations can be quite weird. In fact, you find yourself in a dilemma because on one hand, there is one person you would love to know more about and on the other hand, good questions don’t stumble upon your brain tank. In exact words, you don’t know how to take the conversation forward.

“If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about answers.”
-Thomas Pynchon

What could be the most awkward situation than being in a company of a talented and interesting soul and you hold no idea what to talk about? But, trust me; it doesn’t have to be this way. We will introduce you to an array of questions to drain out your worries from your system.
Experienced communicators know well that the correct questions at the correct time can do wonders! Compelling questions can help you in getting started and also helps the other person to open up. Asking engaging questions is the key to an effective communication.

Here are some tips to keep in mind while asking questions:

#1.  Don’t Ask Questions Continuously

Let your conversation flourish. Give your friend sufficient time to discuss their answers and open up properly. Conversations do not depend on how many questions you ask. Always remember!

#2. Don’t Jump From One Subject To Another

Keep in mind that you aren’t taking an interview of the person sitting in front of you. Let the subject change naturally. Jumping from one topic to another will make the other person feel uneasy and may make him walk away.

#3. Show Some Interest

If you really show interest in what the other person is talking about, then, believe us, you will strike a chord with them! They would understand that you are interested in knowing them more and that will leave a positive impression on their mind.

#4.  Compassion

Nobody likes people who try to make the joke of someone else if they commit a minor mistake while talking. Remember, nobody is perfect. Everybody has their flaws and we must hold the ability to respect them. So, be careful. Whenever the talk reaches a sensitive area, be empathetic.

#5.  Follow-up Questions

Ask follow-up questions to make yourself noteworthy. Don’t switch from subject to another rather ask innumerable follow-up questions on the same topic. This will give an impression to the other person that you are genuinely interested.
