How to Stop comparing your Life with Others?

Are you stuck in that phase of your life where you seem to be stuck with most things in life? Do you often feel like each person you know is moving ahead in life, attaining all their goals and you are stuck? Do you find yourself constantly comparing your life with that of the others? Do you feel it is impossible for you to create the kind of life others have? Are you jealous of the success the others are experiencing and the kind of happiness they have in their life?

Well, before we get to anything else, please keep in mind the fact that the grass always looks greener on the other side. No matter how much abundance we have in our life we tend to have a bunch of things we feel we are missing out on and those that are lacking in our life. What is important to keep in mind is the concept that the human mind is designed in such a way that each time it is able to successfully achieve something it wishes to go to the next level. This is exactly why, even though we have most of the things we tend to easily focus on all those little things that are not there.

This is the reason we find ourselves comparing our life with the others and making our self, miserable over all those things we are not getting to do. If you have been experiencing this problem where you just cannot stop comparing your life with that of others, you really need to consider a few things regarding why you should not be doing so and how it is adversely affecting your existing life. Do you think all your friends are getting married; doing their dream job and living the life that you wish to live as well? Each time you look at what they are doing you only seem to be able to focus on all the things you are deprived of. Here are the things you will need to do right away in order to be able to stop comparing your life to that of the others.

How To Stop Comparing Your Life With Others?

#1. The first step is to realize the fact that you cannot measure your success by comparing it to the life of some other individual who has walked a different journey from yours. When we tend to compare our life with that of others we forget that all the things they have gone through to reach where they are and we have done to be where we are, are completely different. The challenges we have faced and they have faced are all very different from each other. Thus, it is important to keep in mind that we all have different journeys in our life; we all have very different life circumstances. Comparing our life to the life of other people will only make us feel miserable and take our focus away from all the good that we have in our life.

When we look at the life of another individual we only get to see those aspects that are visible on the surface. We get to see the glamour and the success as well as the joy and the abundance. But, all the sacrifices, the hardships, that have led them to their current success are not known to us, we don’t know their journey and thus we should not compare our life with theirs.

#2. We need to understand that each thing has its own timing and for different people, different things occur in life differently. Timing in a lot of cases is not in our hand, how some things will pan out are not in our control at all times. Sometimes we need to trust the fact that if we have made the effort and given all we have to a particular goal, then it will work out in the way that is best for us.

When we compare our life with that of another, we do not take into account the timing factor. Each thing has a process that it has to move through, there are various stages we have to clears and skills we need to learn in order to achieve something. Now, the timing when these things will come to fruition and bare the fruit may not be the same for all individuals. Such things are just not in our hand and beating yourself up for such things is not the solution for anything.

Also, keep in mind the fact that comparing your life to the life of another person is not going to reduce or increase the timing required for your life to turn out the way you want it to be. The time that it is going to take is going to remain the same, so why not make the best of the present moment and do the best in the now?

#3. You need to understand the fact that the set of goals and aspirations you have are different from that of others and thus, it is not a very good idea to compare your life with theirs and then measure your progress. This simply means that you have your goal and preferences in life, as far as you are doing your best and moving at least one step ahead at a time, there is no reason to feel left behind.

Please keep in mind, each person is making progress according to their capability and what is most suitable for them. It has nothing to do with you, so it will be better for you if you do not let the comparison creep up into your mind and discourage you.

#4. A truth that you will need to take into consideration is the fact that you will always have someone who is doing better than you and those who are doing worse in comparison to you. When you compare yourself you never take into consideration, those people and their struggles who are not doing as well as you are or the ones who are in a miserable condition. We tend to see all those things that appeal to our mind, we notice all those people who seem to be successful and happy.

This is one aspect of comparison that we need to make sure we remind our self, each time we begin to compare and look at all those thighs that we are deprived of. Please make it a point to remind yourself that there are people who are not as accomplished as you are, there are those who do not get the opportunities you are getting and there are many who face trauma that you cannot even imagine.

Thus, make it a point to be grateful for all that you have. Have faith in the fact that you can achieve all of those things that you are aiming to, be willing to give it your best and do not forget to rejoice your small yet significant victories. The more you keep your focus on all that you have and all the good that you are experiencing in your life; you will see a change in your attitude and be able to look at the positive in all situations in your life.

The day I stopped comparing my life with others I realized the fact that I had wasted so much time and energy

doing nothing but living others goals. I realized how much time I had wasted in my entire life. I

realized how I had abused myself by compelling myself to do all those things that I never had any interest

in. The sole aim behind doing all of this was to become like someone else. What I did not realize while

running the mad rat race is how I was wanting to be someone and aiming for successes that were not

mine, they were the product if someone else’s imagination and thus did not provide me with any joy.

They only left me emotionally drained and the feeling of burden was immense.

It was the realization that I really required to do things differently and walk a path that was my choice

that changed things for me. This was that turning point in my life that showed me the path to ultimate

success. The moment I started doing things for attaining joy not because I was comparing myself with

others, I began to see how happy I was and how joyful I felt at all times.

The biggest lesson that I learned was that the only person who was my competition was I. I could choose

to up my standards in comparison to others but when I compared myself to me, the amount up to which

I could raise my standard was infinite. The sky was the limit and the only thing I needed to do was to be a

better me each day.

What I realized was the truth that I may not be doing great in comparison to many, but, I am always

where I am supposed to be and doing my best.
