India's bid for a permanent seat in UNSC

India has been trying hard for a permanent seat in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi made a strong pitch for the same.

However, the efforts do not seem enough and India like past years has not been able to bid its claim for a permanent seat.

One thing is amply clear that having more population is no criterion for having a permanent seat in United Nation Security Council. China can be an exception but then it scores much ahead of India on economic fronts.

India is likely to get permanent representation in Security Council between 2020 and 2025 but the country has to show a growth rate of 8 percent on a consistent basis. This will only be possible if Narendra Modi is able to get a second term. It is another thing that countries that have been the winner in past World Wars or other clashes have been able to secure a permanent seat on the Security Council.

India was left out at that time since it was under British Rule and hence could not claim for a permanent seat.

However, with economic growth moving at a steady pace, the wait can end in another 7-8 years and India will be able to secure a membership to the elite club.
